Early life and education

Huntley's first name was chosen from a combination of her mother reading a novel where the lead had this name (A Sparrow Falls by Wilbur Smith) and an electrical storm outside on the day she was born.{{cite web|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170304175807/http://glasgow.stv.tv/articles/277607-stv-glasgow-launch-night-introducing-storm-huntley|archive-date=4 March 2017|url=http://glasgow.stv.tv/articles/277607-stv-glasgow-launch-night-introducing-storm-huntley/|title=STV Glasgow launch night: Introducing Storm Huntley|publisher=Scottish Television|date=2 June 2014|access-date=3 February 2018|url-status=dead|df=dmy-all}} Her grandmother refused to use this name for some time.{{cite news|url= https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/real-life/tv-weathergirl-storm-huntley-unusual-3904999|title= TV weathergirl Storm Huntley on her unusual moniker, fashion and new role on STV's Riverside show|newspaper=Daily Record|date=24 July 2014|accessdate=3 February 2018}}

Television career

After a period of unpaid work experience, she found work as a researcher with BBC Scotland, became increasingly interested in weather reporting and took a short meteorology course with the Open University.
