History

Founder Nancy Sanford Hughes witnessed the health effects of open-fire cooking firsthand while volunteering with medical missions in Guatemala.{{Cite web|url=http://www.aarp.org/giving-back/local-heroes/info-10-2011/2011-purpose-prize-winner-nancy-hughes.html|title=Nancy Hughes, Winner of 2011 Purpose Prize for Community Service|website=AARP}} In response, Hughes gathered support from her local Rotary club{{Cite web|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/devinthorpe/2014/04/22/the-woman-who-is-trying-to-prevent-4-million-deaths-each-year/|work=Forbes|title=The Woman Who Is Trying To Prevent 4 Million Deaths Each Year|date=April 22, 2014}} and contacted experts in the field of improved cook stoves to design the Ecocina, a stove specifically designed to be produced and used in Latin America. Operations
