Sturry railway station is a railway station Kent, England, serving Sturry and Fordwich on the Ashford to Ramsgate line in Kent. It is {{convert|2+1/4|mi|km}} north east of Canterbury West, and lies either side of a level crossing. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Southeastern.
Location and facilities
The station is north of Sturry village. It is also the nearest station to the town of Fordwich.{{cite web|url=https://www.thetrainline.com/stations/sturry|title=Sturry|website=thetrainline.com|access-date=7 March 2020}}
The two platforms are staggered and are either side of the A28 road which passes through a central level crossing. The A291 road to Herne Bay is also near the station.{{cite web|url=https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.3009123,1.1219453,3a,60y,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBva7PSwFAmH_K0G9KsIUaA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656|title=Sturry railway station|work=Google Maps|access-date=7 March 2020}} Platform 1 provides services towards {{rws|Canterbury West}}, {{rws|Ashford International}} and London. Platform 2 provides services towards {{rws|Ramsgate}} and {{rws|Margate}}. This platform also has a part-time staffed booking office and ticket machines.{{cite web|url=https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/stu/details.html|title=Sturry (STU)|work=National Rail|access-date=7 March 2020}}
The unusual layout of the station has caused problems, as there is no direct pedestrian access between the two platforms. In 2020, a man was fined for trespassing by Network Rail when he jumped the level crossing barriers in order to make a train connection.{{cite news|url=https://www.kentonline.co.uk/canterbury/news/tragedy-will-strike-unless-crossing-improved-220327/|title=Ticket machine changes needed at Sturry train station to avoid crossing tragedy, says Canterbury councillor|work=Kent Online|date=20 January 2020|accessdate=27 February 2022}}
