History

In the 1700s, the area between Bostancı and Göztepe was known for smugglers and thieves. The land was used for vineyards, gardens, and pig raising and thus was called Domuzdamı (from Turkish domuz, "pig," and dam, "shed").{{cite thesis |last=Sözer |first=Ceylan |date=2021 |title=An Analysis on Spatial Change of Residential Areas in Istanbul between the 20th and 21st Centuries: A Case Study on Suadiye-Plaj Yolu Street |url=https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ceylan-Sozer/publication/359007706_AN_ANALYSIS_ON_SPATIAL_CHANGE_OF_RESIDENTIAL_AREAS_IN_ISTANBUL_BETWEEN_THE_20_TH_AND_21_ST_CENTURIES_A_CASE_STUDY_ON_SUADIYE-PLAJ_YOLU_STREET_BETWEEN_THE_20_TH_AND_21_ST_CENTURIES_A_CASE_STUDY_ON_SUAD/links/6222055f9f7b3246340dc6f2/AN-ANALYSIS-ON-SPATIAL-CHANGE-OF-RESIDENTIAL-AREAS-IN-ISTANBUL-BETWEEN-THE-20-TH-AND-21-ST-CENTURIES-A-CASE-STUDY-ON-SUADIYE-PLAJ-YOLU-STREET-BETWEEN-THE-20-TH-AND-21-ST-CENTURIES-A-CASE-STUDY-ON-SUAD.pdf |degree=master's |location=Istanbul |publisher= Yeditepe Üniversitesi |access-date=22 January 2025 |page=95}}

In 1900, Finance Minister Ahmed Reşad Paşa built a mansion in the area on land given by the sultan. In 1907, the Suadiye Mosque was built on this land by Commissioner Said Bey of the Ottoman Public Debt Administration, in memory of his wife Suad Hanım, the daughter of Reşad Paşa.{{cite journal |last1=Şahin |first1=Pınar |date=2018 |title=Erenköy'de Bir Selâtin Camii: Hamidiye (Galib Paşa) Camii |url=https://www.academia.edu/68705984/Erenk%C3%B6yde_Bir_Sel%C3%A2tin_Camii_Hamidiye_Galib_Pa%C5%9Fa_Camii |journal=Türk İslâm Medeniyeti Akademik Araştırmalar Dergisi |volume=13 |issue=26 |page=274 |access-date=22 January 2025}}{{cite journal |last1=Sarımeşe |first1=Fatih |date=2024 |title=İstanbul'da Ulusal Mimarlık Üslubu Kitabe Bezemeleri |url=https://dergipark.org.tr/en/download/article-file/4041932 |journal=Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli Üniversitesi SBE Dergisi |volume=14 |issue=4 |page=2209 |access-date=22 January 2025}} The mosque then gave its name to the area around it.{{cite thesis |last=Ataç |first=Serkan |date=2019 |title=İstanbul Kadıköy İlçesinde Bulunan Tarihi Camilerde Yer Alan Hat Eserleri ve Hattatları |url=https://tez.yok.gov.tr/UlusalTezMerkezi/tezDetay.jsp?id=EsYdGWfgzNM4iouMst_LHA |degree=master's |location=Sakarya |publisher=Sakarya Üniversitesi |access-date=22 January 2025}}

Train service had begun in the 1870s between Haydarpaşa and Pendik, but this had little effect on the neighborhood until 1910, when the Suadiye Train Station was opened. Then upper-class families began building mansions and summer houses in Suadiye. In the 1920s, beaches became popular in Istanbul, including the Suadiye shore of the Marmara, especially with the opening of the Suadiye Hotel there in 1928.{{cite thesis |last=Sözer |title=An Analysis on Spatial Change of Residential Areas in Istanbul between the 20th and 21st Centuries |url=https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ceylan-Sozer/publication/359007706_AN_ANALYSIS_ON_SPATIAL_CHANGE_OF_RESIDENTIAL_AREAS_IN_ISTANBUL_BETWEEN_THE_20_TH_AND_21_ST_CENTURIES_A_CASE_STUDY_ON_SUADIYE-PLAJ_YOLU_STREET_BETWEEN_THE_20_TH_AND_21_ST_CENTURIES_A_CASE_STUDY_ON_SUAD/links/6222055f9f7b3246340dc6f2/AN-ANALYSIS-ON-SPATIAL-CHANGE-OF-RESIDENTIAL-AREAS-IN-ISTANBUL-BETWEEN-THE-20-TH-AND-21-ST-CENTURIES-A-CASE-STUDY-ON-SUADIYE-PLAJ-YOLU-STREET-BETWEEN-THE-20-TH-AND-21-ST-CENTURIES-A-CASE-STUDY-ON-SUAD.pdf |pages=95-97}}

Known for being quiet, inaccessible and far from city life, many mansions and summerhouses were built in this area. A dock was opened on the shore, but later demolished when the coast was filled in. The Suadiye Mosque still stands next to the station.{{Cite web |last=Muşazlıoğlu |first=Emre |title=Fotoğraflı Kadıköy Tarihi- Suadiye |url=https://www.gazetekadikoy.com.tr/yazarlar/emre-musazlioglu/fotografli-kadikoy-tarihi--suadiye |access-date=2024-11-11 |website=www.gazetekadikoy.com.tr}}
