Design

The Sun Fast 20 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of polyester fiberglass, with the deck having a balsa core. It has a 7/8 fractional sloop rig, with a deck-stepped mast, a single set of swept spreaders and aluminum spars with continuous stainless steel wire rigging. The hull has a slightly raked stem, a walk-through reverse transom, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a tiller and a retractable lifting keel. It displaces {{convert|1720|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|595|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of cast iron ballast.

The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.26|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the keel extended and {{convert|0.82|ft|m|abbr=on}} with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water, beaching or ground transportation on a trailer.

The boat is normally fitted with a small outboard motor for docking and maneuvering.

The design has sleeping accommodation for four people, with a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin and two straight settee berths in the main cabin. The head is a portable type and is located in the center of the "V"-berths.

For sailing downwind the design may be equipped with an asymmetrical spinnaker of {{convert|304|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}, flown from a retractable bowsprit.

The design has a hull speed of {{convert|5.82|kn|km/h|abbr=on}}.

Operational history

The boat was at one time supported by a class club that organized racing events, the Sun Fast Association.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/association/sun-fast-jeanneau|title= Sun Fast (Jeanneau)|access-date = 27 November 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220918134110/https://sailboatdata.com/association/sun-fast-jeanneau|archive-date= 18 September 2022|url-status= dead}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/sun-fast-jeanneau-class-association|title= Sun Fast (Jeanneau)|access-date= 27 November 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220918134424/https://sailboat.guide/sun-fast-jeanneau-class-association|archive-date= 18 September 2022|url-status= live}}
