Production
The design was built by Jeanneau in France, from 1990 to 1994, with 548 boats completed, but it is now out of production.{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|title = Jeanneau (FRA)|access-date = 16 December 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20210605143626/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|archive-date= 5 June 2021|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|title= Jeanneau|access-date= 16 December 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220418125800/https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|archive-date= 18 April 2022|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url = https://www.boat-specs.com/sailing/builders/jeanneau|title = Jeanneau Sailboat builder|access-date = 16 December 2022|work = Boat-Specs.com|year=2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20210607203532/https://www.boat-specs.com/sailing/builders/jeanneau|archive-date= 7 June 2021|url-status= live}}
Design
The Sun Fast 41 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. The hull is solid fiberglass, with Kevlar reinforcement, while the deck is a fiberglass-balsa sandwich. It has a masthead sloop rig, with a deck-stepped mast, two sets of unswept spreaders and aluminum spars with stainless steel wire rigging. The hull has a raked stem, a reverse transom with steps to a swimming platform, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a wheel and a fixed fin keel with cast iron or lead ballast or optional keel and centerboard. The fin keel model displaces {{convert|16094|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|5633|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of cast iron ballast or {{convert|6900|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast, while the centerboard version displaces {{convert|16226|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|6878|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of cast iron ballast.
The cast iron keel-equipped version of the boat has a draft of {{convert|6.40|ft|m|abbr=on}}, the lead keel-equipped version of the boat has a draft of {{convert|6.92|ft|m|abbr=on}}, while the centerboard-equipped version has a draft of {{convert|8.17|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the centerboard extended and {{convert|4.92|ft|m|abbr=on}} with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water.
The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar diesel engine of {{convert|44|or|55|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds {{convert|39.1|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|92.7|u.s.gal}}.
The design can be equipped with sleeping accommodation for as many as 12 people, but for cruising a typical arrangement is for six people. This includes a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin, a U-shaped settee and a straight settee in the main cabin and two aft cabins, each with a double berth. The galley is located on the port side at the companionway ladder. The galley is L-shaped and is equipped with a two-burner stove, an ice box and a double sink. A navigation station is opposite the galley, on the starboard side. The head is located just aft of the bow cabin on the port side and includes a shower. There are also sinks in each of the aft cabins. Cabin maximum headroom is {{convert|77|in|cm|0|abbr=on}}.
For sailing downwind the design may be equipped with a symmetrical spinnaker of {{convert|1251|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}.
The design has a hull speed of {{convert|7.67|kn|km/h|abbr=on}}.
Operational history
The boat was at one time supported by a class club that organized racing events, the Sun Fast Association.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/association/sun-fast-jeanneau|title= Sun Fast (Jeanneau)|access-date = 18 September 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220918134110/https://sailboatdata.com/association/sun-fast-jeanneau|archive-date= 18 September 2022|url-status= dead}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/sun-fast-jeanneau-class-association|title= Sun Fast (Jeanneau)|access-date= 16 December 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220918134424/https://sailboat.guide/sun-fast-jeanneau-class-association|archive-date= 18 September 2022|url-status= live}}
