Design

The Sun Odyssey 32.1 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with a balsa-cored deck and with wooden trim. The boat interior has varnished teak decor with a teak and holly cabin sole.

It has a fractional sloop rig, a nearly plumb stem, a reverse transom with a swimming platform, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a wheel and a fixed fin keel or optional shoal-draft keel. It displaces {{convert|7936|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2381|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of iron ballast.

The boat has a draft of {{convert|6.40|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel and {{convert|4.75|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional shoal draft keel.

The boat is fitted with a Swedish Volvo MD2020 diesel engine of {{convert|20|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds {{convert|12|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|42|u.s.gal}}.

The design has a hull speed of {{convert|6.89|kn|km/h|abbr=on}} and a PHRF handicap of 136.{{cite web|url= https://www.ussailing.org/competition/offshore/phrf/phrf-handicaps/|title= PHRF Handicaps|access-date= 12 January 2023|author= US Sailing|author-link= US Sailing|work= ussailing.org|year= 2022}}
