The design was developed into the Sun Fast 35 cruiser-racer in 2004.
Production
The design was built by Jeanneau in France, starting in 2003, but it is now out of production.{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|title = Jeanneau (FRA)|access-date = 23 December 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20210605143626/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|archive-date= 5 June 2021|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|title= Jeanneau|access-date= 23 December 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220418125800/https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|archive-date= 18 April 2022|url-status= live}}
Design
The Sun Odyssey 35 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a fractional sloop rig, a raked stem, a walk-through reverse transom with a swimming platform, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a wheel and a retractable lifting keel. The version for the European market has twin rudders. It displaces {{convert|11464|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|3285|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of ballast.
The boat has a draft of {{convert|7.15|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the keel extended and {{convert|2.95|ft|m|abbr=on}} with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water.
The boat is fitted with a Swedish Volvo MD2030 diesel engine of {{convert|29|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds {{convert|35|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|81|u.s.gal}}.
The design has a hull speed of {{convert|7.57|kn|km/h|abbr=on}} and a PHRF handicap of 108 to 129 keel down and 123 to 132 keel up.{{cite web|url= https://www.ussailing.org/competition/offshore/phrf/phrf-handicaps/|title= PHRF Handicaps|access-date= 23 December 2022|author= US Sailing|author-link= US Sailing|work= ussailing.org|year= 2022}}
Operational history
A 2003 review in Sail magazine reported, "many boats with 'contemporary' styling, particularly those from Europe, tend to look amorphous, so it's refreshing to see a new design with truly clean and elegant lines. Jeanneau's latest addition to its long-lived Sun Odyssey line, drawn by Marc Lombard and Eric Levet, is just such a boat."
