The Sun Odyssey 43 was also sold in a charter version as the Moorings 43.

Production

The design was built by Jeanneau in France, starting in 1986, but it is now out of production.{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|title = Jeanneau (FRA)|access-date = 30 November 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20210605143626/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/jeanneau-fra|archive-date= 5 June 2021|url-status= live}}{{cite web|url= https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|title= Jeanneau|access-date= 30 November 2022|author= Sea Time Tech, LLC|work= sailboat.guide|year= 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220418125800/https://sailboat.guide/jeanneau|archive-date= 18 April 2022|url-status= live}}

Design

The Sun Odyssey 43 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig. The hull has a raked stem, a reverse transom, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by dual wheels and a fixed fin keel or optional shoal draft keel. It displaces {{convert|20503|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|6515|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of ballast.

The boat has a draft of {{convert|6.56|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel and {{convert|5.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional shoal draft keel.

The boat is fitted with a diesel engine of {{convert|80|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds {{convert|53|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|106|u.s.gal}}.

The design has sleeping accommodation for up to nine people in two, three and four cabin layouts. The three-cabin layout is typical. It has a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin, a U-shaped settee around a table in the main cabin and two aft cabins each with double berths. The galley is located on the port side at the companionway ladder. The galley is L-shaped and is equipped with a stove, an ice box and a double sink. A navigation station is opposite the galley, on the starboard side. There are two heads, one in the bow cabin on the starboard side and one on the starboard side, aft opposite the galley.

For sailing downwind the design may be equipped with a symmetrical spinnaker.

The design has a hull speed of {{convert|8.21|kn|km/h|abbr=on}} and a PHRF handicap rating of 117 for the shoal draft keel model.{{cite web|url= https://www.ussailing.org/competition/offshore/phrf/phrf-handicaps/|title= PHRF Handicaps|access-date= 30 November 2022|author= US Sailing|author-link= US Sailing|work= ussailing.org|year= 2022}}
