Susan Gourvenec {{Postnom|country=GBR|FREng}} is a British geoscientist who is Professor of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering and deputy director of the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute at the University of Southampton. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2022.

Early life and education

Gourvenec studied engineering at Queen Mary and Westfield, which is now part of Queen Mary University of London.{{cn|date=September 2022}} She moved to the University of Southampton for research studies. Her doctoral research considered geotechnical engineering, and the development of 3D finite element limit analysis of wall installation.{{Cite thesis |title=Three-dimensional modelling of diaphragm wall installation |url=http://dx.doi.org/10.14711/thesis-b612496 |publisher=The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library |first=Wai Man |last=Yan|date=1999 |doi=10.14711/thesis-b612496 |url-access=subscription }} She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Cambridge, where she spent two years before going to Perth. In Australia, Gourvenec worked at Advanced Geomechanics Pty, where she was a member of the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems.{{Cite web |title=Susan Gourvenec |url=https://research-repository.uwa.edu.au/en/persons/susan-gourvenec |access-date=2022-09-22 |website=the UWA Profiles and Research Repository |language=en}}{{Cite web |title=Associate Professor Susan Gourvenec |url=http://www.researchweek.uwa.edu.au/speakers/susan-gourvenec/ |access-date=2022-09-22 |website=Research Week 2017 |language=en-GB}}
