He was part of the team that played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but did not make an appearance.[https://web.archive.org/web/20140625085714/http://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/tournament/competition/02/36/33/44/fwc_2014_squadlists_neutral.pdf 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil ™ - List of Players], FIFA.com

He was Ivory Coast's starting goalkeeper at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as they went all the way to the final, but a thigh injury sustained in the semi-final against DR Congo saw him miss out the final match in favour of veteran Boubacar Barry.[http://www.cafonline.com/en-us/competitions/orangeafricacupofnations,equatorialguinea2015/MatchDetails?MatchId=aVqWSxVaaaFmAlUW9LDlUmnWstfXXsCXBZk8lSbTv9PuSsxabr%2bIsbZ7QLoYXb0L CIV – GHA 0:0, 9:8 PSO], CAF[http://isport.blesk.cz/clanek/fotbal-reprezentace/227442/bony-a-spol-slavi-sloni-vyhrali-na-penalty-a-jsou-mistry-afriky.html Bony a spol. slaví! During the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations between Côte d'Ivoire and Algeria in the quarter-finals, Gbohouo was elected man of the match, despite the defeat of his team on penalties.

Gbohouo could not participate in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to a positive drug test.{{cite web |last=Dove |first=Ed |title=Ivory Coast GK Gbohouo banned ahead of AFCON |website=ESPN |date=31 December 2021 |url=https://www.espn.in/football/africa-cup-of-nations/story/4559509/ivory-coast-goalkeeper-gbohouo-banned-on-eve-of-afcon |access-date=9 January 2022}} He was consequently given an 18-month ban by FIFA and has not played for the Ivory Coast since then.
