Mengüşoğlu founded a new school of anthropology, which he called ontological anthropology. This anthropology deals with man not through any conceptualization but through "his concrete biopsychic wholeness".{{cite journal|url=http://www.edebiyatdergisi.hacettepe.edu.tr/2000172SevgiIyi.pdf |archive-url=http://web.archive.org/web/20130626054440/http://www.edebiyatdergisi.hacettepe.edu.tr/2000172SevgiIyi.pdf |archive-date=26 June 2013 |last=Iyi |first=Sevgi |title=Yüzyılımızda İki Antropoloji Anlayışı, Heidegger ve Mengüşoğlu |journal=Hacettepe Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Dergisi |volume=17 |issue=2 |pages=57-67 |language=tr}} He believed that this new anthropology would be more suitable for approaching and solving concrete problems in the human world.
