– Cube Entertainment appears to have quietly changed the group's name from "(G)I-dle" to "I-dle" on 1 April 2025 (UTC), as reflected in updated SNS handles ([https://x.com/official_i_dle][https://www.instagram.com/official_g_i_dle][https://www.youtube.com/@official_i_dle/videos]) and on the official website ([http://cubeent.co.kr/idle]), with Cube confirmed the changes the following day to the press ([https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/entertainment/k-pop/20250502/gi-dle-rebrands-as-i-dle-for-fresh-start-on-7th-anniversary][https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/news/2025-05-02/entertainment/kpop/GIDLE-drops-G-to-become-idle-signaling-new-era/2298903][https://www.koreaherald.com/article/10479584][https://www.nme.com/news/music/gi-dle-announce-rebrand-with-new-name-two-new-albums-3859918]). It is also worth noting that according to the Name section of the article, "{{tq|Following their return as a quintet, on an episode of 1theK Original's IDDP released on the March 15, 2022, the group confirmed they would like to be referred to verbally as 'I-dle'}}" — so this rename, while quiet, may have been a long time in the making. The purpose of this requested move is to seek WP:CONSENSUS on whether WP:NAMECHANGES should take precedence over the long-standing WP:COMMONNAME, which has been in use since the group's debut in 2018, or whether a move might be premature per WP:TOOSOON principle. Additionally, this requested move discussion should also seek consensus on how to handle recordings (items 6 to 15); in my opinion, these should remain under their existing titles, as they were released when the group was still named "(G)I-dle". :{{A note}} Rationale will be updated with secondary reliable sourcing (preferably English but not guarantee) once available. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 18:26, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

::{{A note}} Rationale has been updated with secondary reliable sourcing reportings and minor copyedits as of revision 1288367324. For the original version without secondary sourcing, refer to revision 1288298089. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 04:48, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

  • Oppose moving the main article (WP:COMMONNAME and WP:TOOSOON, this has just happened and we barely have any sourcing covering the group under their alleged revised name, let alone a preponderance of independent sources.) Given there has been no official announcement of a name change, we don't even know if this is a permanent change or just part of the marketing for their album.{{pb}}Even if the main article does eventually get moved to the new title, I especially oppose changing the disambiguator of all those songs that were released and credited to (G)I-dle. Widespread precedent is to refer to the name of the artist as it existed and was credited at the time of release... going back and retroactively changing all those articles is highly unnecessary. • Support As a part of their contracts being renewed, the group underwent a rebranding and a logo design change: (Chosun News)[https://biz.chosun.com/entertainment/enter_general/2025/05/02/5M2AZO5PVIGJPMM62ZNHLZ4Y5A/] {{in lang|ko}} CrystalLemonade (talk) 23:12, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support changing the group article and associated lists as it appears to be an official change. Similar to how Highlight (band) is no longer at Beast (South Korean band) and how Alice (group) is no longer at Elris. I will however oppose moving the songs and albums as they were released under the old name. orangesclub 🍊 23:39, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

:* I'd like to note a few examples of songs that haven't been changed with corresponding group name changes. "Rollin'" is known as a Brave Girls song, even though they are now known as BB Girls. "Hollywood" is also under Marina Diamandis's old stage name, even though she is now known mononymously. Best to leave the old releases under the old name. orangesclub 🍊 07:24, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

  • Support since this is a major name change for the group themself, which includes a new logo ([https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/entertainment/k-pop/20250502/gi-dle-rebrands-as-i-dle-for-fresh-start-on-7th-anniversary Korea Times] ). (G)I-DLE can still be redirected to I-dle when name changed. But for streaming, it's confusing - what I know is Spotify and Apple Music still carries the (G)I-DLE name for streaming, but it could take a long time to update through them. The official website of their label, Cube Entertainment, has updated their group name to i-dle ([http://www.cubeent.co.kr/idle Source]). Weareblahs (talk) 01:31, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support Since all of their official website and other platforms have been rebranded to the new name, it makes sense to adopt it going forward. This will be the name they use from now on, so there’s no real reason to stick with the old one. {{strikethrough|Even though their past music was released under a different name, it will be moved under the new name as part of the rebranding. When an artist rebrands, it wouldn’t make sense to keep using the old name—that’s the whole point of a rebrand. To avoid confusion for future readers, it’s best to stay consistent with their updated brand identity. }} I oppose changing the attribution of songs released under (G)I-dle to reflect Highlight's rebranding example.Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 03:41, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Although I support move "(G)I-dle" to "I-dle", I oppose move these songs and albums which were released before May 2025. Sinsyuan✍️🌏🚀 07:23, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

  • I support the move, but oppose moving the articles of songs and albums released under the old name. Davidsousa1 (talk) 23:24, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support moving everything except the song/album articles. Music released under the name (G)I-dle shouldn't be changed to the new name. Random86 (talk) 21:50, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support. If it were just a marketing tactic for a single album, I doubt that they would straight-up change whole social media usernames and the name of the group on the company's official website. This is also a name change that the members have spoken about wanting for years. Bloomagiliw (talk) 19:17, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support. Their name on Spotify and Apple Music has been updated to "i-dle" in all lowercase. Safe to say their releases going forward will have the new name while their songs from the first 7 years stay under "(G)I-DLE." Rkalale (talk) 21:20, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
  • Support moving everything but former releases. CUBE has gone hard on the rebrand and it's clearly the identity the group wants to go forward as, as well as now being the identity that new sources are using. Former releases should stay under the old name, however. 2A09:8044:7D3C:0:92D:F31B:C954:A66C (talk) 17:12, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
