The step showing the attack on hydrogen is incorrect. You don't expel oxygen, you eliminate hydride. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.180.2.128 (talk) 23:38, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Reference to synthesis of ephedrine from benzaldehyde and nitroethane

I've found a reference showing that the first step of a synthesis of ephedrine is the one described in the article. {{Cite journal|last=Nagai†|first=Wilhelm Nagajosi|last2=Kanao|first2=Seïzo|date=1929|title=Über die Synthese der isomeren Ephedrine und ihrer Homologen|url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/jlac.19294700110|journal=Justus Liebigs Annalen der Chemie|language=en|volume=470|issue=1|pages=157–182|doi=10.1002/jlac.19294700110|issn=1099-0690}}. However, I'm unsure if it's appropriate, since in ephedrine the only synthesis described is a biochemical one, and this use is not even described in benzaldehyde (i.e. I don't know if this is a major use of benzaldehyde). I'm also confused by the citation needed tag. Should this sentence ("For example, the first step in the synthesis of ephedrine is condensation of benzaldehyde with nitroethane") be entirely removed from the article or expanded further?
