Etymology
Sucrose does seem like a reasonable origin for the suffix, but as far as I can tell [http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=sucrose it developed] after "glucose" and the "-ose" suffix were already in common use, [http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=fructose alongside] "fructose" etc. [http://healthychoice.epnet.com/search/processSearchRequest.asp?siteid=healthlibrary&FeatureId=SearchMedDict&search_option=FM_BM&word=essay This paper] (by a doctor, not an etymologist) gives the origin of "-ase" as "diastase" and "-ose" as "glucose", too. If sucrose is a possibility, should it be listed as an etymology in [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ose Wiktionary:-ose] as well? --Raeven0 17:29, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
