Andrew Cuomo, who is under federal and state investigation for mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic and growing list of scandals, is described on his Wikipedia page in a positive light while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential GOP frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election, is painted as a partisan hack who ignored the science.

Request to Clarify AG Letitia James’ Authority in Cuomo Investigation

Hello,

I am requesting an edit to clarify a misleading statement regarding Attorney General Letitia James’ role in the sexual harassment investigation of Andrew Cuomo.

Issue with Current Text

The page currently states that “Attorney General Letitia James declined to press criminal charges against Cuomo.” However, this wording is misleading because it suggests that she had the authority to do so. Under New York law, the Attorney General cannot unilaterally file criminal charges without a referral from the governor or a state agency, which she did not have in this case.

Proposed Edit

Replace:

Attorney General Letitia James declined to press criminal charges against Cuomo.

With:

Attorney General Letitia James did not file criminal charges against Cuomo, as her authority was limited to conducting a civil investigation. Under New York law, the Attorney General cannot initiate criminal charges without a referral from the governor or a state agency. Instead, the findings were referred to local district attorneys, who had the jurisdiction to determine whether criminal charges should be pursued.

This edit ensures accuracy and prevents misunderstandings about AG James’ legal authority in this case. I appreciate your consideration of this request.
