Angeles City, Philippines

The title should be change to: Angeles City, Philippines. angeles is an old name by today's standard, thus should be name as: Angeles City, Philippines. i used to live there many years ago, before migrating into the US. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.83.149.202 (talk) 01:09, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

We don't call our cities X City unless we have to in order to differentiate from a namesake province or region like Quezon City and Quezon. Angeles will always be Angeles just as Apalit will always be Apalit not Apalit Municipality.--RioHondo (talk) 13:18, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

:Angeles, Philippines → {{no redirect|Angeles}} – Similar to Lucena (Calabarzon), the primary topic for "Angeles" is the Philippine city. Google Trends agrees with this, see https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=%2Fm%2F03g7bg,Angeles%20band,Angeles%20name (the band isn't even that popular). Comment: I agree in principle to the MOS:PHIL guideline to drop the word "city" from article titles, but we can't be dogmatic about this. In common speech almost everyone says "Angeles City". Per WP:COMMONNAME, I feel that Angeles City is the most appropriate title. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 15:47, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

While I support the elimination of "City" suffix for most unique titles (e.g. Guihulngan, Malolos, and Tagum) and confining the use of "City" for the likes of Iloilo City and Zamboanga City, I am leaning towards reinstating "City" suffix to two highly-urbanized cities that have no similarly-named places around the world but aren't the real WP:PRIMARYTOPIC:
:*Angeles, Philippines -> Angeles City (in the Philippines Angeles may either refer to the city itself or to a noteworthy surname, hence the true primary topic concept is divided).
:*Lapu-Lapu, Philippines -> Lapu-Lapu City (the primary topic of Lapu-Lapu is the hero himself, and as such the title redirects to the title with proper spelling, Lapulapu, and the name also rhymes with the local (and controversial) Luzon name for the grouper fish).
:Also: future city of Bulakan goes under Bulakan City (if ever), because both Bulacan and Bulakan are still used interchangeably here (our province), despite erroneusly. Lucena shall leave as it is.

Let's just keep it to this RM. There will always be exceptions to the rule, so we'll need to consider them separately (and then add the outcomes to MOS:PHIL afterwards). :Angeles, Philippines → {{no redirect|Angeles City}} – Per new consensus at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines/Archive47#Moving forward on barangays plus some MOSPHIL discussion and the updated WP:MOSPHIL, regarding the simplification of title convention of Philippine cities into three types ( like Malolos, like San Carlos, Negros Occidental, and like Davao City), and abandoning the "x, Philippines" format, which is not a common name in most reliable sources and unnatural with respect to common usage here.

For Angeles City, "Angeles" alone is not enough because there are numerous unrelated topics bearing this name. It is also a surname, and as per Tambayan discussion that is now archived, Angeles may be related to sports (e.g. Los Angeles Lakers). Thus it fails to become a suitable title for this Philippine city. "Angeles (city)" is not natural, so the best option is Angeles City. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 17:35, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

The "(city)" in "Angeles (city)" doesn't need to be an issue here since several provinces are using this disambiguation method (e.g. Antique (province), Laguna (province)).
