I do not understand what this phrase means: "abstraction to integrate queries into the underlying Java API".

Something like "abstraction that allows using queries in HiveQL instead of Java API" maybe?

I was interested in the history. When did it start? Why? Who? Someone up to it could add a history section or just a sentence in the intro. Could also mention the logo that has actually been created by Cloudera team https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-422 (I don't know if it is alright to mention a private company in that article).
