Bamyan is actually a town/village, not really city. I think the title of this article should be changed accordingly. User:Beh-nam 22:00, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

There appears to be some ambiguity near the bottom of the page in the description of the statues. It is common knowledge that the Taliban destroyed the two statues standing in their rock niches, however the article clearly refers to "three" statues with no sound description of the third - in fact, the article would seem to read as though there are two ("4000 feet apart"). I have read a recent account which refers to two teams of archeologists, one French and the other Japanese. These teams are apparently looking for the third statue, which may have been lost but is described as being 1000 feet long, and perhaps buried in the valley. I have linked to the news article in this post - it is, in fact, an article about the oil paintings in the caves. Rather than simply edit the article carelessly, I propose a discussion about the topic and perhaps a method of verifying this further information discovered. Thank you.

Even if the present editor is a learned writer he has no right to elbow out the views of other writers. Ranajit Pal’s view that Buddhism rose near Bamiyan, not Nepal[http://www.ranajitpal.com] has been deleted due to the ignorance of the editor who should remember that the readers have as much right to true knowledge as the editor. Pal’s view has been published in a book (Non-Jonesian Indology and Alexander) which has been acclaimed in two respected review Journals [http://bmcr.brynmawr.edu/2007/2007-12-39.html]and [http://www.classics.und.ac.za/reviews/05-19pal.htm] - and has also been accepted by learned scholars such as the late Prof. N. G. L. Hammond, (editor of the Cambridge Ancient History, The Oxford Classical Dictionary and discoverer of Vergina) Thomas McEvilley and many others. In the introduction, the following sentence appears: " It was a place where East met West and its archaeology reveals a blend of Greek, Turkish, Persian, Chinese and Indian influence." Fine. But where in the actual article is there any mention of Greek influence, Alexander, etc? "The city of Bamyan was part of the Kushan Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era."
