No of Chinooks on order (2021)
March 22nd 2021 (-2025 five year) UK Strategic Defence Review states that 9 Chinook helo's are to be withdrawn (along will all 20 Puma HC2's, to be replaced with: "a new single variant Medium Lift... Yet to be announced").
: It would be good if the "Chinook HC Mk4 / Mk5 / Mk6/6A" section be split, to reflect current operational models: MK5,6,6A (only) and the retired MK4 put into the preceding list of historical variants (MK1, 2, 3) and all these marked such. Has anyone any ideas which variant has been earmarked for "scrapping" (disposal). Currently, it is stated that the RAF has a fleet of 60 Chinooks this would be an interesting fact added to the entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.70.25.197 (talk) 14:14, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
::Ok, this section has now been split. The retired HC4 are in their own section. A75 (talk) 21:19, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
March 22nd 2021 (-2025 five year) Strategic Defence Review
Regarding this Strategic Defence Review, a Janes publication stated:
:"... and plans to replace older model Boeing Chinook helicopters with new MH-47G-standard machines. "The RAF is retiring its oldest CH-47 Chinook helicopters and investing, alongside the US, in newer variants of this operationally proven aircraft, enhancing capability, efficiency, and interoperability"
:Reports on the Strategic Defence Review only state 9 Chinooks are to be withdrawn, but no mention of upgrades or a new variant - just a number cut. This would mean the MOD Chinook count goes from 60 to 51 by 2025. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.70.25.197 (talk) 14:46, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
