There is no reliable substantiation for her mother's claim to Cherokee ancestry, with widespread reports that Cher has disavowed such claims.

Of the two sources on this page, one is a 1993 People article that makes a single passing reference to her mother's supposed heritage. The other is a 1972 Life piece which is only 2 columns long and states her surname as Sarkisier, so not exactly highly fact checked either.

On her mother Georgia Holt's page, there are five sources cited as a group for the Early life section that mentions her claim of Cherokee descent. Only one of the five addresses it at all and is not a reliable source, but it debunks any claim of Cherokee heritage and states Cher has disavowed it also.

Unless and until a reliable source is identified, this claim needs to be removed, or at the very least heavily contextualized as being unsubstantiated and dubious. The category 'American people of Cherokee descent' also needs to be removed.

The lead is way too gushy-Hollywood-publicist in style for an encyclopedia. The writing should be toned down considerably starting with the second sentence which tries to pack as much gush into readable sentence as it possibly can. 68.229.65.74 (talk) 16:42, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
