Component parts

It would be great to have a list of the different organisations carrying out the cyberwarfare, eg 3PLA, 4PLA, the GSD, the MSS, the Strategic Support Force (总参谋部, 中央军事委员会联合参谋部, 战略支援部队, ——总参二部).

:The People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force (SSF) was the primary cyberwarfare organization until April 2024. The [https://www.uscc.gov/sites/default/files/2022-11/2022_Annual_Report_to_Congress.pdf 2022 annual report to U.S. Congress by USCC] identifies on page 442 and Appendix III some PLA units or APTs (advanced persistent threat) under the SSF. :Rename to "Cyberwarfare by the People's Republic of China"? Biophys (talk) 06:42, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

::Or "by the Chinese Communist Party"? Thanks. Path2space (talk) 01:55, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

:Cyberwarfare in China → {{no redirect|Cyberwarfare by China}} – Why? "in" is so vague, not just "crossing thru" X1\ (talk) 20:06, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Because cyberwarfare is conducted by (or on behalf of) intelligence agencies it seems absurd to me to keep the article "Chinese intelligence activity abroad" and the article "Chinese cyberwarfare" separate.

This article should be merged with Chinese intelligence activity abroad.

:Cyberwarfare by China → {{no redirect|Cyberwarfare and China}} – First, the proposed move better represents the scope of the page and of the topic. Cyber warfare includes offensive capacity, defensive capacity, attribution capacity, and deterrence/coercion. These are overlapping ideas with a common developmental history -- "and" makes more sense than "by". Second, this move ensures that we avoid any risk of a WP:POVTITLE or WP:POVFORK. Finally, although WP:OTHERSTUFF applies, there is also a benefit in article consistency with Cyberwarfare and the United States and Cyberwarfare and Iran. :*Oppose - The proposed title would not better represent the vast majority of the page's actual contents. Not exactly WP:CONSISTENT when one looks at a page that more closely resembles this one such as Cyberwarfare by Russia. - Amigao (talk) 22:31, 16 March 2025 (UTC)

:Note: WikiProject Internet, WikiProject Espionage, WikiProject China, WikiProject Computing, and WikiProject Military history have been notified of this discussion. TarnishedPathtalk 09:25, 24 March 2025 (UTC)

:* Support - Cyberwarfare and China sounds much more neutral. Additionally do the same with Cyberwarfare by russia.

:Weak support per nomination. While I do take some issue with publishing only allegations, I don't think it's appropriate to have to wait for every little thing to be confirmed before publishing. (Hi from WP:CSEC!) guninvalid (talk) 17:26, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

  • Support. This article includes information about Chinese efforts to improve defenses against cyberwarfare as well as Chinese accusations about foreign cyberwarfare programs. Moreover, the current situation, where we have an article about "Cyberwarfare and the United States" but an article about "Cyberwarfare by China", doesn't seem conducive to covering the topics in a neutral way. —Mx. • Support per nom, and I believe the Russian one should be moved too. It is appears descriptive so WP:NDESC and WP:POVNAMING apply. Hope the article is re-written a bit, inline with a successful move. DankJae 13:29, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
