: A descriptive statistic is a kind of summary statistic. But there are plenty of summary statistics that are inferential, not descriptive. An example from genetics is GWAS summary statistics.[https://www.ebi.ac.uk/gwas/downloads/summary-statistics] Inferential statistics are based on probability models, whose usual intent is to model a larger population. I suppose one could create a summary statistic article that is subdivided into inferential and descriptive sections.
