Cleanup

I see that maintenance tags have recently been removed from this article, yet the reason(s) for the tag(s) still exist. Sentences and paragraphs should never begin with punctuation or references. References in this article need to be moved to the end of the sentences or paragraph they support. The {{tl|cleanup}} tag has been restored and should not be removed until these references have been properly relocated, and extraneous punctuation removed. Thank you.  -- WikHead (talk) 18:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

More clean up required

  • The clean up tag referred to above was removed again without remotely fixing the problems with this article, and it has got even worse. I have now re-tagged this article listing the specific issues that need fixing including: plagiarism from copyright sources, e. g. http://www.nation.lk/2011/02/06/eyefea3.htm, and probably several others; poor spelling, grammar and punctuation; inappropriate use of external links (to the point of spam); non-neutral and promotional language; and misplaced footnotes (as outlined above). Voceditenore (talk) 14:04, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Note to the article's main editors If you have any affiliation whatsoever with Dinesh Subasinghe, either personal or professional, please read WP:COI and follow the guidelines there scrupulously. And please do not remove the maintenance tags until the issues they highlight have been completely rectified. Voceditenore (talk) 14:04, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

::i tagged this also, back in September, but there are still issues, aside from the bare weblinks, there are a number of cites that do not conform to WP:RS and should therefore be removed. Semitransgenic talk. 11:55, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

:::In fact, yesterday, the article's creator removed all the tags I had placed:

:::*{{tl|copy edit}}

:::*{{tl|Peacock}}

:::*{{tl|copypaste}}

:::*{{tl|external links}}

:::*{{tl|MOS}}

:::They did so without fixing any of the issues. It wouldn't surprise me if they remove your tags too. Anyhow, I am now going through the article myself removing the copyvio, rampant puffery, garbled English, unreliable sources, repetition, linkspam, etc. All help appreciated. Voceditenore (talk) 12:21, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

::::i weeded out a ton of youtube links some time back, the were bare urls, placed as citations, they have not been replaced, so I think we can nudge this into shape eventually.just need to keep an eye on it. I also see a problem with the amount of images provided, it looks like a scrapbook to me. Semitransgenic talk. 14:24, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

:::::Yes, but after you weeded out the YouTube videos, the editor(s) in question re-added almost all of them as links to indiatube.apnicommunity.com which simply hosts YouTube videos. I removed them again. I've pretty much culled the hype, repetition, and copyvio from this article, and will now work on the bare urls. In the process, any further sources which are not reliable can be more easily discovered and removed. (I've also removed a lot of links to forum postings and blogs.) Another problem is the attempt to publicise this composer in other articles. See Talk:Passion play#Sri Lanka section. Eyes need to be kept not only on this article, but also on pages linked to it. "First ever Buddhist oratorio"

In the section "Buddha oratorio: Karuna Nadee" I have left in the fact that according to the Sri Lankan newspaper The Daily Mirror, it is the first Buddhist oratorio. However, I have also provided information and references for a much earlier Buddhist oratorio, Dudley Buck's 1887 Light of Asia, and two other oratorios (1986 and 2011) which incorporate Buddhist texts. I have edited the article's lede and "Career" section to remove the unambiguous claims to be "the first ever". I have also edited the article Karuna Nadee accordingly. The source for the Life of Asia being the first Buddhist oratorio is a very scholarly one. All the Sri Lankan newspaper articles on Karuna Nadee seem to be based on press releases and/or interviews with its composer. Voceditenore (talk) 08:36, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

:great work, that claim was pretty sketchy, I wonder how many of the other cites in this article are essentially press releases published in newspapers? Semitransgenic talk. 09:40, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

::Many of the claims are in articles obviously based on press releases. The articles were all virtually identical, despite being in a lot of different papers—sometimes with different named "authors", other times credited to Indo-Asian News Service. I've removed a lot of the duplicated references. Voceditenore (talk) 06:57, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Misleading and superfluous image removed

File:Khemadasa in concert (Dinesh Subasinghe led the Premasiri khemada's orchestra in many concerts and operas ).jpg

I have removed the image on the right. It is entirely superfluous to this article and misleading. It shows Premasiri Khemadasa himself conducting the orchestra for his cantata, Pirinivan Mangalya. There is no evidence that Subasinghe conducted the premiere. In fact, there is no evidence apart from articles based on his own say-so in interviews and press releases, that Subasinghe has ever "led" (i.e. conducted) Khemadasa's orchestra in performance. Even if these were to be found, this image in inappropriate. Voceditenore (talk) 06:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Note that in April 2012 the creator of Dinesh Subasinghe also added the cryptic assertion below to Agni, right in the middle of the "Background" section, where it was very inappropriate [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Agni_%28opera%29&diff=489184829&oldid=485335078]:

::On 24th of may , The last Opera of the late Prof Kemadasa will be staged, led by the sri lankan new age composer Dinesh Subasinghe , who also was the 1st violinist to play with the master when he was conducting Agni. [sic]

:It presumably refers to a 24 May 2012 revival. However, it was entirely unreferenced. I have removed it from that article. Voceditenore (talk) 06:24, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Sinhalese sources

Given the multiple referencing problems this article has had, I have asked members of :WikiProject Sri Lanka to look at the sources in Sinhalese, asking them to check if a. they are reliable sources, b. they verify what they allege to verify, and c. they are not simply duplicates of the English sources already in the article. The references in question are 2, 8, 9, 23, 24, 26, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37. Voceditenore (talk) 12:08, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Following [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Musiclanka&oldid=554310143#Voceditenore this conversation] at User talk:Musiclanka, I have re-added :File:Khemadasa in concert (Dinesh Subasinghe led the Premasiri khemada's orchestra in many concerts and operas ).jpg with a new caption which does not make misleading, self-aggrandizing, and unsupported claims.
