Conservative or Moderate
I with my own biases do not find her positions anywhere near former conservative democrats such as joe manchin or Krysten sinema and feel that one or two sources that describe her as conservative instead of moderate have been given undue weightage. I would like to have a discussion on whether the conservative moniker should be kept or not. Nohorizonss (talk) 12:04, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
:There is disagreement between reliable sources, hence "conservative to moderate" andrew.robbins (talk) 13:08, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
::checked the sources again, zero mention of the word conservative Nohorizonss (talk) 06:12, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
:I don't think it should. Maybe conservative democrat at a stretch but not conservative AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 13:36, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
New Senate portrait
There is a new Senate portrait photo from her website that might be able to be added to Wiki commons and the article:

Israel & LBGTQ+ Political Positions
Hello,
I'm noticing some bias in the political positions page, specifically on the Flags section; seems to be implied accusation of homophobia. Thoughts on adding info about Human Rights Campaign endorsements etc, along with softening up the language to be more neutral? For foreign policy, also, I'd like to add to that section that she called for a ceasefire in Dec. 2024 and published a joint statement on military strategy before that as well. Everything else is fine AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 13:40, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
:I would not be opposed to removing the flag section entirely. It's much ado about nothing and undue in its current state, but some editors were quite insistent on including it before (while she was in a primary). Maybe we can get a new consensus now? Dcpoliticaljunkie (talk) 05:56, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
::I agree; maybe we should put it under a "controversies" section or something like that. It's not really a political position, and if people want to keep it up we should place it in a more appropriate section. What do you think? AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 16:53, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Giving it a first-level heading as a "controversy" would be giving it even more prominence which is even more undue in my opinion. I would be in favor of removing it entirely not creating a controversy section. (No objection per se to adding the HRC endorsement but not sure why that one would specifically be included without devolving into a list of all endorsements in every campaign so depends how it is done.) Dcpoliticaljunkie (talk) 13:08, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
::::I think you're right, but I think that there would still be opposition to its total deletion. HRC endorsement is supposed to be a counterbalance given that the whole thing is about an implied homophobia accusation. It doesn't really fit anywhere; maybe we could move it to a few sentences in the tenure section. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 13:26, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::If there's opposition, then the WP:ONUS to get consensus for inclusion would be on them. I think the fact that both of us here agree is at least sufficient to conclude that consensus for its inclusion in its current form doesn't exist. I'm going to be WP:BOLD and remove it. I think the article is improved without unduly giving weight to that one vote covered by some motivated local media but if there's a strong feeling it should be included, I'm happy to discuss the form it should take. Dcpoliticaljunkie (talk) 02:21, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::Good stuff. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 17:03, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
:It should be included just as a vote in the tenure section with the purpose of the vote and her stated reason, without the biased anti-lgbtq claims by some local media. It has also been covered by TIME Magazine profile of her and Newsweek.

:"Slotkin has broken from her party’s positions on several issues, and was scored as one of the most bipartisan House members. She has opposed abolishing the death penalty, reserving its use for rare cases; was one of 12 Senate Democrats to vote for the Laken Riley Act that mandates harsher detention rules for undocumented immigrants suspected of theft or violent crimes; and drew criticism after voting for an amendment in 2023 preventing Department of Defense facilities from displaying non-official flags, including Pride flags. (Slotkin said she wished to ban “hateful flags” like the Confederate flag and would “rather support a no-flag policy than allow hateful imagery above U.S. military bases”; she has been endorsed by the LGBTQ+ rights group Human Rights Campaign and [https://x.com/SenatorSlotkin/status/1679863850202542080 voted in favor of gender-affirming care] for military families.)"
