Major outage today?
I've not got reliable sources but the chatter and realtime experience is that Meta is down as of this datestamp. BusterD (talk) 16:12, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
:Yes it’s been mentioned by [https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/facebook-down-users-report-problems-including-getting-logged-out-1235930538/amp/ Variety] and [https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2024/03/05/facebook-down-super-tuesday/72850694007/ USA Today]. The Film Creator (talk) 16:15, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
::Let's see it's got any legs. Certainly have RS now. All about Super Tuesday outage. BusterD (talk) 16:18, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
:::I’ve also started a discussion at the talk page on Instagram as well. The Film Creator (talk) 16:20, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
::::There’s also an outage on Messenger (software) per [https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/facebook-instagram-messenger-down-not-working-latest-b2507376.html The Independent]. The Film Creator (talk) 16:27, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
:::::It's obviously WP:OR, but despite all of the news stories I can log in without any problem to Facebook at the moment. This means that it is not an outage with the website down completely. This needs some time to ensure that it meets WP:10YT.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:36, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- It seems that large parts of Facebook and Instagram were not working for about two hours on 5 March 2024, and they are back online now. I'm not sure if this is notable enough for a mention.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:43, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
Suggestion for the "Facebook" Wikipedia page:
I suggest adding a section on the psychological and emotional impacts of Facebook’s algorithms. Reports from users in Estonia highlight how highly personalized and manipulative content can lead to severe distress, with some experiences described as much, much worse than words can convey. There are concerns that such algorithmic manipulation could be contributing to widespread psychological harm, potentially akin to a form of digital or informational genocide. Including these user experiences could offer valuable insights into how these algorithms affect mental health and contribute to ongoing discussions about privacy and ethical issues. Editorq35 (talk) 01:58, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
:We would need reliable, published sources that specifically discuss these issues to include any of this material in the article. Given the nature of the issue, these should include journal articles written by academics and/or professionals in the fields of psychology and/or psychiatry, not just anecdotes about "reports from [Facebook] users in Estonia" . Do you have any such sources? General Ization Talk 02:19, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Should reels be mentioned?
They seem important enough. I couldn’t find them mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia. Doug Weller talk 19:26, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
