Page Move

Requested move 9 May 2025

{{requested move/dated|Florian Nuessle}}

:Florian Nüßle → {{no redirect|Florian Nuessle}} – Another user has requested this move on my talk page. I messaged the creator of the page who has recommended this process. Snooker's governing bodies WST [https://www.wst.tv/news/2025/march/13/nuessle--hallworth-and-highfield-secure-world-snooker-tour-cards/] WPBSA [https://wpbsa.com/tag/florian-nuessle/] BBC [https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0kx7wy4] and TNT Sports [https://www.tntsports.co.uk/snooker/european-masters/2020-2021/european-masters-florian-nuessle-plays-on-after-allen-century-just-to-get-time-at-the-table_vid1356037/video.shtml?welcome=eurosport] all use the anglicized spelling of his name without the Eszett. • Oppose. I would suggest we should take a look at the Pascal Groß treatment.

:Also TNT apparently uses both: [https://www.tntsports.co.uk/snooker/florian-nussle_prs516379/person.shtml [5]] TheVictoriaHarbourer (talk) 17:56, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Pascal Gross is called Pascal Gross by every channel and site that covers football

If every source ie World Snooker, the WPBSA, TNT Sport and the BBC use Nuessle then the move should be supported 100%.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.251.154.132 (talk)

  • Oppose. His name is Florian Nüßle and although some English-language sources render this in standard English orthography, there is not enough usage to support a COMMONNNAME argument that overcomes other policies and guidelines. A number of English-language sources do use Nüßle, such as [https://www.ebsa.tv/eight-in-a-row-for-florian-nusle/ the European Billiards & Snooker Association], [https://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?player=1835 Snooker.org] [https://www.tntsports.co.uk/snooker/florian-nussle_prs516379/person.shtml?welcome=eurosport TNT Sports] (as previously noted, their usage is mixed), and [https://www.austriansnooker.at/report-florian-nuessle-stopped-before-last-step-to-main-tour-ticket/ Austrian Snooker] (arguably, a biased source). A Google News search for Florian Nüßle returns 10 hits while Florian Nuessle returns 19 – almost twice as many but overall very little coverage. WP:UE ("Use English") states: {{tq|If there are too few reliable English-language sources to constitute an established usage, follow the conventions of the language appropriate to the subject (German for German politicians, Portuguese for Brazilian towns, and so on).}} The manual of style at MOS:DIACRITICS states that {{tq|Wikipedia normally retains […] special characters}} in proper names outside a few specified exceptions, which do not apply here. Finally, WP:SPNC states: {{tq|For minor spelling variations (capitalization, diacritics, transliteration, punctuation and spacing after initials, etc.): when a consistent and unambiguous self-published version exists, it is usually followed.}} His Instagram handle is [https://www.instagram.com/flonuessle/ @flonuessle] but he clearly writes his name Florian Nüßle in the profile. On Twitter, he is [https://x.com/flo_snooker @Flo_Snooker] and he writes the full name "Florian Nüßle Snooker". It is common practice to omit "special characters" in handles and URLs even in sources and languages that use them elsewhere; he clearly uses Nüßle when writing his full name. --MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 18:39, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
