Bogus etymologies, etc.

  • First, the word is gaṇḍānta, not gandanta.
  • The sandhi will be gaṇḍa + anta.
  • Try "gaNDa" (H-K notation) [http://webapps.uni-koeln.de/tamil/ here] with the "prefix" option. Yields: "N. of the 10th astrological Yoga ; an astronomical period (cf. %{gaNDA7nta}), W".
  • Similarly, "gaNDAnta" yields "n. the first fourth of an asterism preceded by a node of asterisms Su1ryas." ("Su1ryas" means the sūryasiddhānta.)
  • All this "spiritual knot" stuff is probably a poorly expressed interpretive gloss of some sort on a bona fide technical term. rudra (talk) 08:34, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
