I'm looking for a citation that Ben Heppner was ever engaged to play Siegfried at the Met in the season in question. In the interviews on the extras disc in the DVD set of that Ring, Met General Manager Peter Gelb says only that he asked Gary Lehman to do the role two years before the premiere was due, and that he studied the role and did five weeks of rehearsals before dropping out for health reasons. Not a syllable about anyone else having been engaged to do the part. Unless this can be referenced, I think it should go.Morag Kerr (talk)

I deleted the last two paragraphs of this page, but have been reverted instantaneously, with a request to discuss here.

After doing some research I found no evidence that Mr Lehman was able to resume his career after his illness. In the production mentioned in the final paragraph, he was replaced. The info in the penultimate paragraph - his replacing BH and then having to be replaced himself - was of dubious notability when I put it in years ago. To include it now seems like WP:UNDUE. Singers get ill and replaced all the time, especially singers in this particular fach.

It would be nice to close the page with info about what happened, but I couldn't find any, and especially since this is a BLP attempting to surmise the facts would be inappropriate.

At this distance, I can't remember who has this on their watchlist, but hopefully someone will add commentary please :) almost-true 13:37, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

:Personally, I'd keep the 2011 Met tenor round-robin in. However I have removed the last sentence about him singing Florestan in Dresden in 2012. I can find no evidence of that (as yet). In fact, [https://bachtrack.com/review-dresden-semperoper-fidelio this review] says that the role was sung by Jürgen Müller. It's never a good idea to put "future plans" in an encyclopedia article. However, I did find two performances in 2013 at the Bavarian State Opera and the and added them with references. I imagine he retired from the stage around 2014 (when his website went off-line}. ::I've just removed Tristan at the Bavarian State Opera in 2013. The [https://www.staatsoper.de/stueckinfo/tristan-und-isolde/2013-03-10-16-00.html final cast list] has Robert Dean Smith singing the role. The previous ref for that was published in the 2012/2013 season program. Plans obviously changed.
