Untitled
Does anyone know anything about the Australian release of this movie? I.e. its date of release and the name it was released under. I can't have seen it in 1956, but I have a faint childhood memory of it being in some cinemas, presumably some years later and perhaps not on its intitial release here. I thought it was called The Fire Monsters at that time, rather than Gigantis the Fire Monster. Is anyone old enough (or does anyone maybe have parents old enough and interested enough) to have a clear memory of this? :) Metamagician3000 03:18, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Godzilla Raids Again
According to the information on Wikipedia concerning this movie, the title is attributed to a VHS release by Video Treasures. However I remember this title being used back in the 1970's when refering to this movie.
The volcano monsters

Missiles?
What kind of "missiles" are JSDF pilots firing into mountains in 1955? The US and USSR were only just developing the very first generations of guided air-to-air missiles around this time (exclusively for aerial combat, not ground attack), and it seems unlikely that they would be in service in the JSDF, or a part of the wider Japanese social consciousness yet. The first combat use of the Sidewinder was in 1958, production started in 1955. And that was one of the very first aerial missiles in service.
Unguided rockets, however were in their heyday as aerial and air-to-ground weapons in the 1950s, and I suspect that is what is depicted in the film.
