Peak hour trains to Marsden

The article as it stands suggests (with no source to back it up) that since May 2018, peak-hour trains exist from Guide Bridge to Marsden and Huddersfield (presumably calling at Stalybridge on the way).

A limited number of peak hour only Northern service are routed through Guide Bridge between Manchester Piccadilly-Marsden/Huddersfield and call at the station following the May 2018 timetable.

However, the May 2018 timetable change was a complete farce and some of the planned changes have still not been put in place. A look at the National Rail Enquiries journey planner suggests that the only option for travel directly between Guide Bridge and Stalybridge is the weekly train to/from Stockport - even after the May 2020 timetable change (which is of course provisional at this stage due to possible COVID-19 related changes). If anyone can supply a source that shows there have regularly been direct trains between Guide Bridge and Stalybridge (and beyond) in either direction at any point since May 2018 that would be very handy! Otherwise, this should probably come out of the article. --Peeky44 What's on your mind? 12:32, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Images

@TL9027 added a number of images, some of which I wholeheartedly agree would improve the article. However, something is pushing the thumbs down to underneath the infobox - even when they're left aligned. It's as though there's a {{clear}} somewhere that I can't find... does anyone have any bright ideas? Danners430 (talk) 13:12, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:Just use and simply pop the images underneath the and close it with . No need the '|thumb' thing. TL9027 (talk) 13:19, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::Please see WP:GALLERY - there's a reason I reverted that. Images shouldn't be in a bunch at the bottom of the page, they should be distributed throughout the article in the sections they apply to - for example, the image of the bike rack belongs in "Facilities" and the image of the train arriving could go in "Services". But WP:GALLERY strongly discourages a "gallery" of images in articles. Danners430 (talk) 13:21, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::TL9027 (talk) 13:21, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:::So in which way you think the images should be put? Can you show me? TL9027 (talk) 13:23, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::::That's what I'm asking here - I tried, using the source and visual editors, to move the images to the left in the sections they were in (because your initial edits did put them in the correct place) - but for some reason it's not working, and they're being pushed to the bottom. That's why I opened the talk to see if someone else had any bright ideas. Danners430 (talk) 13:24, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Now I've edited the page to pop the images to different sections. Is that what you mean? TL9027 (talk) 13:25, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::Sort of - a couple of points...

:::::* Stop edit warring - especially when there's a discussion ongoing right here which you're even engaged with. Repeatedly reverting to your preferred version of a page is edit warring, and it can see you blocked again - indeed, it's what saw you blocked last time.

:::::* That's exactly what you did last time - and for some reason the images all wind up pushed to the bottom of the page on my screen. That's why I'm looking for a solution to have them left aligned in the article instead of at the bottom. Danners430 (talk) 13:35, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::::::But the images shows correctly on my screen, I can attach a screenshot of what I see if you want. TL9027 (talk) 13:36, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::::That might help - on my screen they're grouped together at the bottom. Unfortunately I can't upload a screenshot on this device at the moment. Danners430 (talk) 13:37, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::I'm guessing that's the mobile version due to the size? I suspect it's something to do with how the page is rendered on a widescreen monitor on a PC... Danners430 (talk) 13:43, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:::This is what I see AFTER I switched to desktop view by pressing 'desktop' on the bottom TL9027 (talk) 13:45, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Yes, but it's on a mobile browser which means it's rendering on a very narrow screen - the point I'm trying to make is it seems to be broken on a PC with a normal monitor. That's why I'm trying to get input from people that might have a better idea than myself as to why it's happening. Danners430 (talk) 13:46, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::I've experienced what you said when I opened the page using a library PC. Anyone can help with edit? TL9027 (talk) 15:44, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:To the original post {{tq|something is pushing the thumbs down to underneath the infobox}} - what we have here is a WP:MFOP situation. What you need to consider is not just images but any object (a box that is not necessarily an image) that is left- or right-aligned. These are always displayed in the same order that they occur in the page source. As of {{oldid|Guide Bridge railway station|1287162738|this revision}}, the article has nine such objects:

:#the infobox

:#the "Railway lines in Tameside" RDT (top edge is determined by the bottom edge of infobox)

:#image captioned "Guide Bridge junction in its 1912 context" (top edge is determined by the top of the RDT)

:#image captioned "Guide Bridge station in 1967" (top edge is determined by the bottom edge of previous image)

:#image captioned "The southern platforms and station ..." (top edge is determined by the top of previous image)

:#image captioned "Ticket Office" (top edge is determined by the bottom edge of previous image)

:#image captioned "Cycle Park"

:#image captioned "A Northern Class 323 calling at the westbound platform"

:#box reading "Wikimedia Commons has media related to Guide Bridge railway station."

:One thing that can be done is to place {{tlx|stack begin}} immediately before the infobox and {{tlx|stack end}} immediately after the {{tlx|Tameside Lines|2=collapse=yes}}, and before the text beginning "Guide Bridge railway station serves ...". This will combine the infobox and the RDT into a single object, and the "Guide Bridge junction in its 1912 context" image can then take up its intended position. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:08, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

::Thanks, I'll try that TL9027 (talk) 04:30, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

::{{done}}, let's see if the issue is fixed TL9027 (talk) 04:36, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

About cycle park photo

@Danners430 I noticed you removed the cycle park photo. To what I concern is the cycle park is also part of the station facilities which is fairly uncommon for smaller train stations (comparing to carpark). I think the photo may stay on this page. TL9027 (talk) 08:22, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

:Personally I would disagree - it's becoming quite a common feature at stations (which is very much a good thing)... and what does it add to the srticle? Stations also have facilities like toilets, waiting rooms etc. I feel as though that's going a bit too far with illustrating the facilities available.

:Perhaps @Seasider53, who removed it the first time, could comment? Danners430 (talk) 08:30, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

::It added nothing to the article that text alone could not, so it should not appear in that article. The fact that it was considered for inclusion is a bit troubling to me. Seasider53 (talk) 08:53, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
