Discrepancies on the "first" Black lawyer to pass the bar in California

It appears in texts that Washington J. Oglesby (1859 – July 6, 1902) has been credited as the first Black lawyer to pass the bar in the State of California in 1896, but was refused bar admittance until 1902;{{Cite news |date=1902-07-07 |title=Washington Oglesby dies without having been sick |url=https://www.newspapers.com/article/san-francisco-chronicle-washington-ogles/80917464/ |access-date=2025-03-22 |work=San Francisco Chronicle |pages=5 |via=Newspapers.com}}{{Cite book |last=Tramble |first=Thomas |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=fmZRX1fZ08sC |title=The Pullman Porters and West Oakland |last2=Tramble |first2=Wilma |date=2007 |publisher=Arcadia Publishing |isbn=978-0-7385-4789-3 |language=en |page=81}} however reliable citation(s) show Gustavus Woodson Wickliffe had passed the Southern California bar two years earlier in 1894.{{Cite news |date=1921-06-02 |title=G. Oglesby is most likely notable either way, and also needs a WP article and research. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 04:11, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

: Also it appears that R. C. O. Benjamin (1855–1900) was also credited as the first Black lawyer to pass the state bar in California in 1887.

:: {{u|FloridaArmy}}, I added this question to Talk:List of first minority male lawyers and judges in California, in hopes someone knows more. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 05:35, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
