Talk:HIV Vaccine#Proposed merge of HIV vaccine development with HIV Vaccine
Proposed merge of [[HIV vaccine development]] with [[HIV Vaccine]]
HIV Vaccine redirects to HIV vaccine development Sushidude21! (talk) 23:15, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
:Merge – when I saw this article I thought there must already be one on this topic, and HIV vaccine development fits that bill. This article should be merged into that one and the title left as a redirect. --Northernhenge (talk) 23:19, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
:Merge Clear overlap. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 03:39, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
:Merge. Noting that HIV Vaccine has only existed for a couple days. Also noting that HIV vaccine already redirects to HIV vaccine development. meamemg (talk) 15:26, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
:Support the merge, altohugh this raises the question of the target. My view is that merging both to HIV vaccine would be the better target. It is the broader topic (including the scope of development) and is more consistent with WP:LOWERCASE for page titles. Klbrain (talk) 12:33, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
::'Agreed, removing the word "development" from the title would probably be better. Sushidude21! (talk) 22:53, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
::'I don't agree. The very topic of this article are the [https://accpjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/phar.2921#:~:text=Five%20long%2Dacting%20(LA),lenacapavir%2C%20ibalizumab%2C%20and%20dapivirine long acting antiretroviral drugs] (cabotegravir, rilpivirine, lenacapavir, ibalizumab and dapivirine). Vaccines and drugs are two completely different things.--Skyfall (talk) 20:31, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
:Good spot, Skyfall. I now agree that the current HIV Vaccine article isn't describing a vaccine at all, but rather a form of pre-exposure prophylaxis with a long half-life. It seems to be a coat rack for Apretude, which is already appropriately covered at cabotegravir. Hence I suggest that we blank and redirect HIV Vaccine to HIV vaccine development, awaiting the day when there is something more than antiretrovirals and passive immunization.
