Assessment

This article needs to be re-assessed. It has been expanded from stub. Digimanpk (talk) 14:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

:Start-class. Lead paragraph needs to summarize key points of the entire article. References need to be formatted properly; either using the {{tl|cite}} series of reference templates or using some other approved style mentioned in WP:CITE. --Born2flie (talk) 01:55, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Contributions

I rewrote the whole article with pictures and references. Could require a spell check. Further expansion is possible. Digimanpk (talk) 10:49, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Redirected HAPS article to this one

There was a stub at an article named "HAPS" which duplicated this article. I redirected that page to this one and copied it's contents to the discussion page here in case there is anything unique that should be included here.

Contents from "HAPS":

{{for|the Dutch village|Haps}}

A HAPS (High-Altitude Platform System or High Altitude Pseudo-Satellite), is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which is to remain relatively stationary at high altitude.

They can be used as communications platforms, for weather surveys, traffic reports etc. Because of their relative short distance from earth compared to satellites (20 km compared to up to 40,000 km) they could even be used to provide mobile telecommunication, without the need for ground based antennas, and without the long delays associated with satellite communication.

Merger proposal

{{Discussion top|1=The result of this discussion was to Merge. NukeofEarl (talk) 14:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)}}

I propose that High-altitude airship and Stratospheric airship be merged into this article. It seems that all of these pages present overlapping information, and that High-altitude airship in particular is unclear on whether its article is about a specific Lockheed Martin project or the concept of an aerospace vehicle in general.

I'm suggesting that those articles be merged into this article because the term "High-altitude platform" seems to be the most general and all-encompassing for this type of vehicle, and might be the most future-proof in terms of not having to revisit this issue with a redirect in the future.

I'll be placing the appropriate tags on the appropriate pages. Darkest tree (talk) 18:51, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

:good idea, and they are not translated , maybee a big article will help --Beaucouplusneutre (talk) 10:58, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Stratospheric airship may overlap as much with Orbital airship as with High-altitude platform. The High-altitude platform article mostly describes what can be done with a stationary high altitude platform, independent of the particular technology (airplane, balloon, or airship). The High-altitude airship article describes a particular example of a High-altitude platform using Stratospheric airship technology. Orbital airship describes a three-stage system consisting of a Stratospheric airship, a High-altitude platform, and a final extreme airship to orbit. It might be better to merge the four articles into two, one on High-altitude platforms, and one on very high altitude airships. David C Bailey (talk) 19:44, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

:no.reading one of the article should acknowledge ofer one thing.let them decide.overlaping is good because it allows users to solve same problem twice — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.25.54.17 (talk) 11:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

::In support of merging, neither HAA nor this article has grown significantly beyond Stub size. The HAA info could be incorporated here as an example of stratospheric LTA craft. The Orbital proposal is so different in altitude, complexity (first stage, hand-over, second stage), and purpose that it should stay separate. - ¡Ouch!
