Rewrite

OK I have completely rewritten this article in an effort to possible go for GA with it. I'm open to any comments on it, let me know! Dottydotdot (talk) 13:01, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

:15px Greatly improved and researched, but before it can be considered for GA, the ampersands (&) need to be replaced by the word "and". Using "&" in article text is a no-no per the Manual of Style.  JGHowes  talk 16:24, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

::{{Done}} Okey dokey no problems, have done that! Dottydotdot (talk) 19:04, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

This article, while a huge improvement over the older article, relies almost exclusively on unreliable sources. I have gone through the first 20 and maybe only 2 look okay. This article will need to be resourced almost entirely before it has a shot at GA. A brief check on Google Books finds several good sources, including {{ISBN|0231700342}}. :Ah darn, didn't realise they werent reliable enough. Hmmm....OK, well, I might re-source it one day, but probably not for this GA nomination-quite busy at the moment. Thanks. Dotty••| 07:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Azdi?

The article states that the first residents of Dubai worshiped the god Bajir. The Wikipedia article on god Bajir states that he was mostly worshiped by the Azdi. Does it mean that the first residents of Dubai were Azdi? As far as I know Azdi only moved northwards from Yemen after the destruction of a great dam around 200 AD. Does anyone have views on the subject? —Preceding unsigned comment added by СЛУЖБА (talkcontribs) 12:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

:The source given is considered to be unreliable. However Yemen to Dubai travel isn't completely unreasonable. 62.64.152.154 (talk) 22:20, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Issues

I think there is some confusion over what exactly constitutes a 'settlement'. By definition, nomads could not have SETTLED the area. This also implies that a long-lasting community existed in Dubai, which is very unlikely as the whole of Arabia was sparsely settled during 3000 BC (and there are no signs that Dubai is an exception). The phrase 'human habitation' would be more appropriate in this context. I'm not exactly sure what a 'caravan station' is, but perhaps this could be the first sign of settlement.

Much of the sources are questionable - a lot are promotional tourist adverts with no factual basis. Many of them are dead links as well. Elspamo4 (talk) 02:39, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

I have very little hope for this article.

As a long time IP editor and now a newly registered user, I've been taking the time to go through Wikipedia's Manual of Style guides. There are noticeable amounts of errors in this article that the MoS preaches to avoid. Missing citations, dubious sources, editorial-style tone, lack of context, etc. Walking in, I believed that it just need a little copy-editing and love to get it back on track; but, it seems like the article is struggling structurally. Dubai is a major metropolitan city of likes of NYC and Tokyo. Per contra, NYC's and Tokyo's history articles are of much better quality. I must admit I'm not inclined to geography and history by the slightest. My only hope is this article is picked up and edited by a knowledgeable and patient editor.

United poo Emirates

In the last paragraph under the "Future" section, there is a "United poo Emirates". It's best to correct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.68.40.75 (talk) 11:08, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
