In my browser (Firefox 1.5), the first occurrence of $\operatorname{ad}$ in this article appears literally (as \operatorname{ad}), whereas the others appear correctly. Is this just a problem with my browser (or maybe a timeout while waiting for the content to render?), or do other people experience it too?

:That's my comment above, I just forgot to sign it. When I view this from home (using the same browser -- in fact, the same profile), $\operatorname{ad}$ appears correctly, so it must've just been my connection speed. JadeNB 04:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
