Graduation

The year of graduation is conventionally defined as the year in which the degree was conferred, not final year, hence 1962 for John Howard, not 1961. Michael Kirby and Murray Gleeson graduated in the same year at Sydney Law School. See also https://www.hcourt.gov.au/assets/publications/speeches/former-justices/kirbyj/kirbyj_gleessu.htm. NB: Southern Hemisphere academic years tend to end in December. Pádraig Coogan (talk) 9:40, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Can This image be used as the main one on the John Howard wikipedia page?--Celco85Celco85 (talk) 11:41, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

:Photo should be more recent, I request that we change it to this this one from 2014. File:John Howard 2014 version 2 (cropped).jpg Lord Beesus (talk) 10:36, 13 March 2025 (UTC)

::The former picture is more institutional, I believe it should be kept Szekere07 (talk) 11:27, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

:Oppose. I don't think we need to use the latter as that image makes Howard's skin tone look warmer than the former, clearer looking image, and little context has been provided about why we must use the second image. Howard's image doesn't need to be changed as he is still active in politics especially the internal workings of the Liberal Party, he was also campaigning for the Liberal Party in the 2022 federal election.{{cite news |work=The Guardian |url=https://www.9news.com.au/national/federal-election-2022-former-prime-minister-john-howard-campaigns-marginal-victorian-seats-kooyong-chisholm-higgins/2c10dce6-d4c1-4686-9ea5-846e9ec70f9d |access-date=23 March 2025 |archive-date=28 November 2024 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241128102350/https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/may/17/john-howard-says-liberal-party-asked-him-to-campaign-extensively |first=Elias |last=Visontay |date=17 May 2022 |title='Hello it’s John Howard calling': former PM says Liberal party asked him to 'campaign extensively'}} Qwerty123M (talk) 11:46, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

::The fact that he's still active in politics is a major part of why I'm suggesting a new lead image. It really doesn't make much sense to be using a nearly two and a half decade old portrait for a guy who is still actively doing stuff. Lord Beesus (talk) 13:25, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

:::It's not a good image though. He looks like a tomato. The current image is better. TarnishedPathtalk 13:39, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

  • This is the long term version of the infobox image prior to Celco85's change. The version they edited in is a retouched version which reduced contrast and smothed out skin tones and hence has less depth.
