:John McKay (musician) → {{no redirect|John McKay (guitarist)}} – I have already moved this as what I thought was an uncontroversial move, but it was moved back with the somewhat insulting allegation that it was a "disruptive edit"! If a musician is overwhelmingly known for playing one instrument, as McKay is, then we usually use that instrument as a disambiguator. In addition, we have John McKay (pianist), who is also clearly a musician, so the current title is only partial disambiguation. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:05, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support as per nom; retarget John McKay (musician) to dab. 162 etc. (talk) 20:16, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support then, as it is indeed probably easier for readers to find this article. Woovee (talk) 17:00, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose Considering he is apparently just about to release a solo album, I'm not sure why there is a reason to redirect the page due to a less relevant musician. Bruebach (talk) 10:23, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. First, what is wrong with guitarist, our usual disambiguator for guitarists? Is he not a guitarist? Is there something insulting about the term? Almost the entire article is about his guitar work rather than his saxophone work (the latter being mentioned precisely once). Second, partial disambiguation is, as ever, a terrible idea. The sole function of disambiguation is to aid readers. It makes utterly no sense for one person to be disambiguated as a "musician" and another as a "pianist", no matter how much more significant one is than the other. Especially when there's a perfectly good alternative disambiguator. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:41, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- :Ok for "(guitarist)" then Woovee (talk) 17:01, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
