Child wives
{{strikethrough|Any reason we aren't discussing this guy's interest in marrying children? We use words like "woman" to describe 14 year olds. 174.171.79.146 (talk) 05:08, 6 February 2025 (UTC)}} IP sock of blocked user. FyzixFighter (talk) 18:57, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
:I think it's a valid question to raise. There's is extensive debate on this issue, including criticism of Smith, but whether or not this could be expressed encyclopaedically, or even whether the article would benefit from such an addition, is difficult to gauge. Obscurasky (talk) 15:15, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
::FyzixFighter, what makes you say that? Obscurasky (talk) 22:00, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
Timeline
Overall, I like the addition, since Smith just had so many things happening in his life, sometimes it’s hard to keep them straight.
That said, I’m concerned with the POV evident in the curation and phrasing of the points as listed. It seems like something out of a Sunday School manual. There’s: a credulous mention of the visits of the angel Moroni; not a word about polygamy or Fanny Alger; “financial difficulties” is code for credible accusations of illegal banking and fraud leading to a collapse of his church; and probably more I haven’t had time to really comb through.
Normally I’d see about doing it myself but time constraints preclude me from really jumping into it as I’d like. Trevdna (talk) 17:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
This article does not include the proper name of the church. It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This is because we worship God, and not Mormon. It is God's church, not Mormons.
Proper name of the church. 71.92.158.22 (talk) 23:58, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is specifically mentioned and linked in the lead. Do you have any specific concerns regarding the name's usage in the article? Bowler the Carmine | talk 18:27, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
:Respectfully, it does "The religion he founded is followed by millions of global adherents and several churches, the largest of which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church)." Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:10, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
Mainstream Christianity/Nicene Christianity view in lead
I think it would be a beneficial addition to the article to add what Nicene/Mainstream Christianity views on Joseph Smith like I did here with this revision: {{Oldid|Joseph Smith|1288154540}}. Perhaps it would be more accurate to change 'mainstream' to 'Nicene' to be more specific to the sources but I think the fact that his prophethood is refuted in the overwhelming majority of Christian denominations is an important fact to mention in the lead (the most read part of an article). Thoughts? Invincible767 (talk) 10:04, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
