The reference to a lack of parliamentary ratification has been removed, since British treaties have never required parliamentary ratification. Cession, however, would have made Hawaii a British colony, which would have had to be acknowledged (at least) by legislation. Furthermore, Britain would then have had to protect its colony, which would have been logistically difficult as well as expensive. The reaction of Vancouver's masters appears to have been one of masterly inactivity. Errantios (talk) 08:39, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
