This article was terribly overlinked! I removed some of it[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Keely_Smith&curid=627205&diff=316186116&oldid=316154524]. For instance, links to "Virginia", "New York City", and "record producer" all are close to another link to a more pertinent article that should already include that link, and are therefore shadowing the helpful link. I don't see any reason for a link to "marriage"; the article has no more connection to it than any other article of a person who ever married, and it is highly unlikely that someone would read that article and then decide to find out about marriage. Same goes for "divorce" and "professional". I left one of the three links to "duet (music)", because it's a borderline case. The link to the US is not necessary per the examples at Template:Infobox_musical_artist.

A particularly silly case of overlinking was "Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group or Chorus". Why extract the link to "Grammy Award" from the perfectly pertinent link to the specific award? — Sebastian 20:25, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

:I think that having linked "Cherokee" and unlinked "Irish" so near each other borders systemic bias, as it subconsciously suggests that being Cherokee is somehow "less normal" than being Irish. (It assumes that readers, on reading that she was born of part Cherokee and Irish descent, will be likely to want to know more about the Cherokee people but not about the Irish people. I can see no rational justification for such an assumption. Either keep both links or remove them both.) Also, I don't see the point for the pipe in "Norfolk, Virginia" (why isn't Norfolk, Virginia good enough? I know that all-blue is harder to read than all-black, but half-blue and half-black is even harder), nor for the links to "album" and "compilation album"; having links to the individual albums would make more sense. "Count Basie" is particularly bad in that context, because I think that many readers won't have the palest idea of where such a link might go. --___A. di M. 12:31, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I can see that her birth year is 1932, and that this is supported by good sources( eg: [http://books.google.com.au/books?id=Wq8Ms0Cl32kC&pg=PA186&dq=%22Keely+Smith%22+born&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UVuQU5uQIsTOkQWewYD4Cw&ved=0CCcQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22Keely%20Smith%22%20born&f=false this]) . I can also see sources that are less reliable ([https://www.jango.com/music/Keely+Smith/_full_bio this] and [http://www.topix.com/forum/music/vocal/T94M2EDECALT0F49K this] and a OTRS email that indicate she was born in 1928, and some reliable sources like [http://books.google.com.au/books?id=e9c_MzMA8kYC&pg=PA55&dq=%22Keely+Smith%22+1928&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gGCQU5aqCsaRkgWw6YH4Bg&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22Keely%20Smith%22%201928&f=false this]. It seems that we may have an actual birth year and one concocted for professional reasons. Perhaps a matter that should be in the article - Peripitus (Talk) 12:22, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

:The current citation on the article for that 1928 birthday is Obituaries in the Performing Arts, 2017 by Harris M. Lentz III. Unfortunately this source is not reliable. It is WP:CIRCULAR since Lentz cites Wikipedia in his bibliography. The book should really not be used at all.

:As evident from previous topics dating to 2006 on this talk page, this wikipedia page listed her birth date as 1928 at some point. It's changed in 2010 to 1928 in the article by a user who seemingly frequently changed birth dates on biographies without citing that information based on their talk page.

:Lentz certainly cited Wikipedia to get this date. I am removing his citation from the birth date claim for that reason. I will replace the Lentz citation with the Clavin one, but I am a little dubious of where Clavin is sourcing that information as well since he doesn't use citations. She is listed on the 1930 US Federal Census as 2 years old. :If "Fever" is the track in the opening of the film (which I believe it is), then I think Smith sings the women's part ("Hey Boy, you're sweet as wine" etc.).
