Kickass Torrents have a domain formerly known as kat.how this domain is still active but redirecting to another domain.

:File:Red question icon with gradient background.svg Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. JTP (talkcontribs) 05:16, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Outdated info

Please change the Revival section to reflect that the revival was short lived and as of this date no equivalent sites have properly continued the legacy of KickassTorrents (especially since the address at Katcr.co is no longer active).

Otherwise you are just leading people into the hands of scam artists trying to sell vpns or even worse, trying to infect people's machines with malware.

:You're quite right that Katcr.co is no longer active and it hasn't been for some time. [https://web.archive.org/web/20200718131859/https://newkatcr.co/ Here] is an archived link from the Wayback Machine in July 2020, which says "katcr.co » newkatcr.co The site is currently migrating data to our new domain. Meanwhile, the site functions will be added according to its progress and validations. Thanks for your understanding, Regards, KAT-TEAM." This shows an intention to move to newkatcr.co, but I have just had a look there and it is only a placeholder page. For practical purposes, it has to be assumed that katcr.co is currently defunct, and any revival would need to be confirmed by a reliable source such as TorrentFreak. There are various clone sites with names that are similar to Kickass Torrents, but these are likely to be unofficial and it is right not to mention these in case they contain scams, malware etc which has been a problem in the past. The Wayback Machine shows that Katcr.co was up and running in June 2020 [https://web.archive.org/web/20200601154720/https://katcr.co/] but had gone offline by July 2020. I've adjusted the wording in the article to make this clear.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:27, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Change domain to kickass.to

Would it be alright if I changed the domain for the site to kickass.to, the domain of KAT seized by ICE? The domain linked redirects to a random domain registrar.

M4sugared (talk) 12:52, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

:Kickass.to was the original version of the site, shut down by law enforcement in 2016. As of today, it is still showing a notice saying "This domain has been seized". Katcr.co was the revival version and it has not been online since 2020, as of today it is showing a placeholder page for anyone who wants to buy the domain. There are currently no officially recognised versions of the site, although there are various sites with lookalike names. I wouldn't object to putting the original name, kickass.to in the infobox.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 13:15, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

POV Pushing

"The investigation was led by special agent Jared Der-Yeghiayan, who also tracked down Ross Ulbricht, the operator of the online black market Silk Road."

And so what? The article is about KAT, and not the career highlights of some Fed. Feels like the article is trying to force an association between sometimes legal file sharing, with a website where you buy drugs and arrange to have people killed. "Mr. Smith was arrested for speeding by Officer Jones, who was at the scene when Ted Kaczynski was arrested.", ergo Mr. Smith and Ted Kaczynski have something in common.72.181.112.54 (talk) 22:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Request for update on the alleged perpetrator

{{edit semi-protected|KickassTorrents|answered=yes}}

  1. First of all, the page [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=90659305 was protected in May 2018], almost 7 years ago. Though this is of course a matter of opinion, I suspect the protection could be lifted now.
  2. Secondly, I'd like the below updates to be appended to the {{Section link|KickassTorrents|Arrest of the alleged owner|nopage=yes}} section, in place of the last brief paragraph currently there.

In December 2016, Artem Vaulin was transferred from prison to a hospital due to severe back problems. While the court initially ruled that his condition did not warrant hospitalization, the prison director later authorized the transfer to ensure that he received proper medical care. Doctors diagnosed him with partial paralysis and a loss of sensation in his lower limb and concluded that surgery was necessary. His medical condition has led to the postponement of several pending extradition hearings.{{cite web |last1=Van der Sar |first1=Ernesto |title=Alleged KickassTorrents Owner Leaves Prison for Hospital |url=https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-owner-leaves-prison-hospital-161210/ |website=TorrentFreak |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250130125541/https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-owner-leaves-prison-hospital-161210/ |archive-date=2025-01-30 |date=2016-12-10 |url-status=live}}

In February 2017, the {{ill|Warsaw District Court|pl|Sąd Okręgowy w Warszawie}} of first instance approved the extradition of Artem Vaulin to the United States. This decision marked the first stage of the extradition process, which includes a review by two judicial instances before the final decision is made by the Minister of Justice. Meanwhile, Vaulin remained hospitalized and under medical treatment for severe back problems.{{cite web |last1=Van der Sar |first1=Ernesto |title=Alleged KickassTorrents Owner Can be Extradited to The US, Court Rules |url=https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-owner-can-be-extradited-to-the-us-court-rules-170301/ |website=TorrentFreak |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240915133519/https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-owner-can-be-extradited-to-the-us-court-rules-170301/ |archive-date=2024-09-15 |date=2017-03-01 |url-status=live}}

On May 18, 2017, Vaulin was released on bail on medical grounds, with the bail set at $108,000. As part of the conditions of his release, he was prohibited from leaving the country, and his passport was confiscated. After leaving jail, Vaulin moved to a rented apartment in Warsaw with his wife and five-year-old son, pending a decision by the second instance court in the ongoing extradition proceedings.{{cite web |last1=Sandoval |first1=Greg |title=An interview with alleged KickassTorrents founder in his jail cell in Poland |url=https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/23/15681160/kickasstorrents-founder-artem-vaulin-interview-bittorrent |website=The Verge |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241208020701/https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/23/15681160/kickasstorrents-founder-artem-vaulin-interview-bittorrent |archive-date=2024-12-08 |date=23 May 2017 |url-status=live}}{{cite web |last1=Van der Sar |first1=Ernesto |title=Alleged KickassTorrents Founder Released on Bail |url=https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-founder-released-on-bail-170523/ |website=Torrent Freak |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20241126202004/https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-founder-released-on-bail-170523/ |archive-date=2024-11-26 |date=2017-05-23 |url-status=live}}

In late 2020, Artem Vaulin violated the conditions of his release by unexpectedly leaving Poland, and his whereabouts became unknown. As a result, the District Court in Warsaw forfeited his bail on August 26, 2020, and extradition proceedings in Poland were discontinued.{{cite web |last1=Van der Sar |first1=Ernesto |title=US Case Against KickassTorrents in Trouble as Alleged Operator Flees Poland |url=https://torrentfreak.com/us-case-against-kickasstorrents-in-trouble-as-alleged-operator-flees-poland-201008/ |website=TorrentFreak |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250130164007/https://torrentfreak.com/us-case-against-kickasstorrents-in-trouble-as-alleged-operator-flees-poland-201008/ |archive-date=2025-01-30 |date=2020-10-08 |url-status=live}} After losing contact with Vaulin, his legal team in the United States withdrew from the case, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois decided to suspend the proceedings until the defendant was apprehended.{{cite web |last1=Van der Sar |first1=Ernesto |title=Alleged KickassTorrents Operator is Now Officially a Fugitive |url=https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-operator-is-now-officially-a-fugitive-201028/ |website=TorrentFreak |access-date=30 March 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250323031424/https://torrentfreak.com/alleged-kickasstorrents-operator-is-now-officially-a-fugitive-201028/ |archive-date=2025-03-23 |date=2020-10-28 |url-status=live}}

Kindly thank you. —83.8.167.18 (talk) 23:03, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

  • {{done}}: Thanks for writing this, as it gives a lot more detail on the situation with Artem Vaulin. Although I'm not an admin, the semi-protection is probably still justified, because for some reason the articles about torrent sites seem to be a constant target for vandals and spammers.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 14:14, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
