Dodgson

Every Carrollian knows that the "g" in Dodgson's name is silent. It is not pronounced. It is not supposed to be pronounced. It might be pronounced by some other people with the same name. Doesn't matter. This was discussed at length as far back as 2014, archived now, but it is still there. What can we do to stop people wrecking the IPA? -- Evertype· 16:37, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

::@Pillowcrow @Evertype It doesn't look as though anyone did this at the time, so I've added one. Musiconeologist (talk) 22:35, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

::: Thank you! I had totally forgotten about this. pillowcrow 23:30, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

::::Whether "every Carrollian" knows it or not, it still needs a citation. Surely someone can provide one?Wilus (talk) 11:45, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

Polymath description

I feel he should be described as a polymath as his expertise clearly spans different subjects from poetry to mathematics to photography. 102.214.14.254 (talk) 19:54, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

:A reliable source would be needed. Johnuniq (talk) 23:08, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Why is a raven...

Dodgson was required to read Latin extensively in school, and had a more than passing interest in ciphers. The claim by the Google AI that there is NO association between Dodgson and Polybius is nonsense, but the riddle is not. Dodgson was aware of exactly how a raven is like a writing desk, as explained by Polybius in his writing related to naval warfare apparatus. I doubt that anything that Dodgson wrote, even as Lewis Carroll, was "simply nonsense".

UPDATE: Google AI has repaired itself, it has a very poor short-term memory ;^)
