The M4 carbine (officially Carbine, Caliber 5.56 mm, M4) is a 5.56×45mm NATO, gas-operated,{{efn|Stoner expanding gas system per patent.{{cite web |url=https://patents.google.com/patent/US2951424A/en|title=US2951424A: Gas operated bolt and carrier system |date=September 6, 1960 |website=U.S. Patent Office}}}} magazine-fed, carbine developed in the United States during the 1980s.

Are the commas correct here? Maybe they are, but I'm looking grammar nerds to double-check things. Electricmaster (talk) 19:21, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

:The second comma was incorrect, so I removed it. Although I'm not really sure if it's necessary to mention being gas-operated and magazine-fed in the lede to begin with, seeing as (unless I'm mistaken), all ARs/carbines are both of those things. Loafiewa (talk) 19:27, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

::AR, whether you mean AR-15 or Assault Rifle, isn't mentioned yet by the article. And no carbine is just a shortened rifle. It goes back to refer to shortened muskets and bolt action rifles, but also lengthened pistols like the WW1 era Lugers and C96s with stocks and handgrips attached. That said, it is a bit wordy, maybe change magazine fed to select fire? I think that's more accurate to its role and capability, I mean, how many gas operated select fire carbines form the 1980s aren't magazine fed. Wozrop (talk) 00:13, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
