This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --Drtimmysummers (talk) 16:23, 23 January 2014 (UTC)the Band Malik & the O.G's is part of a movement of artists dedicated to bring about social justice through poetry and song. This movement dates back to the civil rights era and included The Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron, The Watts prophets, the Young Lords, Amiri Baraka, Kwame Toure, Art Blakey, Miles Davies, The Jazz Messengers (USA) the Jazz Warriors (UK), Cleveland Watkiss, Lemn Sissay, Benjamin Zephaniah et-al.

These people are considered the voice of black people who are often edited out of history. They form part of a movement for social justice that campaigned against apartheid AAA (Artists Agains Apartheid) MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) Agains Nuclear power and a host of other social issues particularly those that affected black people such as war. It would be wrong to deny the social importance of this band that has been nurtured by some of those very activists and who are continuing their legacy of activism through spoken word poetry. It is also noteworthy that this movement founded Rap (The largest grossing music on planet earth).

The issues here are therefor much wider than a band playing some songs to promote themselves. This is about art for the people not art for arts sake. Hence the wide coverage of this story in the media.
