Not Notable

I would have proposed that this article be deleted, but there was already an earlier discussion about that, which wound up keeping the article. I think maybe the process should be run again now that coverage of the Trayvon Martin case has died down. My main complaint is that the subject is only notable for one event, so he should only be mentioned in that event's article, and doesn't need one of his own according to WP:BLPNOTE. :The prior AFD was 6 months ago, so it would be reasonable to re-nominate it, but I believe you are incorrect on the notability issue. Althouch certainly he was launched into the spotlight by the Zimmerman case, he has remained there independently. He was named "national criminal trial lawyer of the year" [http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/blogs/tv-guy/os-mark-omara-named-criminal-trial-lawyer-of-year-20140122,0,2875580.post], he has become a legal commentator on CNN [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/06/mark-omara-cnn-george-zimmerman_n_3882207.html] (providing signficant commentary on the Michael Dunn trial) (or on topics as far removed from Zimmerman as the Phillip Seymour Hoffman OD [http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/06/us/heroin-investigations/]), he is defending an accused serial rapist Terry Freeman a case likely to get significant coverage [http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-mark-omara-deltona-firefighter-rape-20140122,0,1481727.story]., etc. Now certainly none of this may have happened without the Zimmerman case, but thats true of every notable person really - they did one thing first, and then managed to keep it going. (Sex is hereditary, if your parents didn't have it, neither will you.) Gaijin42 (talk) 19:44, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

::I added the info about him being a CNN analyst (just an AP blurb, really), which becomes the first third party source outside the Zimmerman trial stuff. I still think the article as it stands does not reach the level of notability, but I think the right thing to do is flag it now so that maybe 6 months or or a year in the future we will see that he has either become more notable or not. Getting further away from the Zimmerman trial will give us more perspective. Fnordware (talk) 21:50, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

::One more thing: I also find it sort of suspicious that over half the links point to his own website, and it is featured in the infobox. Smells like promotional intent and WP:AUTOBIO to me. Fnordware (talk) 22:01, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

:::meh, low traffic stubs generally have tons of issues. Certainly there is better sourcing for most things that we could upgrade to. I took a quick scan of the history and there weren't any obvious or even probable autobios. The IPs are not from Florida, and none of the accounts seem suspicious (although a handful of SPAs with minor contribs). Frankly, if it was an autobio I would expect a ton more puffery in the article. Gaijin42 (talk) 22:28, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

O'Mara appears on CNN as a legal analyst regularly. He's on TV right now talking about the Ferguson grand jury situation. Eaqq (talk) 16:21, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
