Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?

The WikiProject U.S. Cities standards might help.

Picture

The picture of downtown seems to be from before some of the redevelopment that is going on down there, I used to live in Mtz and left just before that started, but if memory serves, when i was there a couple years ago even, most of main street had been redone with angled parking and large planters and such. :Only one block of Main Street (Alhambra to Castro) has angled parking, planters etc. The photograph is several blocks away (taken from Ferry Street), and is an accurate view as of May 2012. --ChrisJBenson (talk) 07:06, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello.....

5 of the most famous residents of this medium sized town off 680 on the way to Vallejo (just before you hit the Benicia Bridge)...are all sports-related...

Joe DiMaggio (born there grew up in San Francisco)

Norv Turner (San Diego Chargers Head Coach)

Jim Turner (Chicago Bears offensive coordinator and Norv's brother)

Stan Van Gundy (Alhambra High School Graduate and coach of the Orlando Magic (NBA)

Jeff Van Gundy (former coach of the Houston Rockets/NBA and Stan's older brother also attended the same high school)...

So The Van Gundys and Turners grew up basically in the same town and at around the same time... I wonder if one set actually acknowledge the presence of the other set??

==The external link to the "Alhambra Creek Beavers Video" is incorrect==

I have contacted You Tube, 86.73.111.100, and the videographer in an effort to obtain the correct URL.

Beavers

This section seems very biased to me. Thoughts?--Banana 18:19, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Bocce Ball

Martinez is also home to the Martinez Bocce Federation, which is the largest bocce ball organization in the United States. The 15 bocce ball courts are located at the scenic waterfront park. League play occurs from April to October, seven nights per week, with over 1500 members participating. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smhello (talkcontribs) 20:21, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Change the City's Name?

Has there been any effort to change the town's name from Martinez to something else? How many cities in America are named "Martinez?" I know they change street names sometimes to avoid conflict and redundancy. Perhaps that would be a good idea.--76.212.152.96 (talk) 03:53, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

:I apologise for this excessively delayed response. The short answer to your first question is no. This is presumably because of the short answer to your second question, which is one. This California settlement is the only incorporated city named Martinez in the United States. The only other census-designated place called Martinez is within the city of Augusta, Georgia, some 2,600 miles away, and conflict has so far been avoided. Martinez or Martínez?

It's an anachronism to refer to the city's eponym as Martínez, since the acute accent in -ez surnames did not become standard in Spanish until the 20th century. Also, it does not mean "Martin's son" but just "Martin's," since (when it was used as a patronymic, in the Middle Ages) it was applied to both sons and daughters. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cobylub (talkcontribs) 16:28, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Map showing the city boundaries

For genealogical purposes, maps showing the boundaries at each major annexation would be helpful.
