Sadie Kaye Deadname
The person formerly known as Richard Kaye has since transitioned and is now called Sadie Kaye, see [https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/mathematics/people/navigation.aspx?ReferenceId=9844&Name=dr-sadie-kaye here]. Does that webpage counts as a reliable source or else what sources should I look for, since she's not published anything since the change of name? 86.26.160.231 (talk) 23:12, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
:Seeing as Kaye is a private individual who is not particularly known under either name, this should be fine, assuming we are certain this is the same person. Having updated the name is appropriate and I just went through it :) ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:44, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
::I am not convinced that Sadie Kaye is the same person as Richard Kaye. I know Richard Kaye as a mathematical logician, particularly well-known in the mathematical community for his [https://global.oup.com/academic/product/models-of-peano-arithmetic-9780198532132?lang=en&cc=de textbook of early 1990s] on models of Peano arithmetic.
::Besides, just today I checked his [https://web.mat.bham.ac.uk/R.W.Kaye/ official homepage] and there was no mention of "Sadie". The homepage also refers to [https://web.mat.bham.ac.uk/R.W.Kaye/minesw/ Kaye's page on Minesweeper].
::In my view, the person who proved the NP-completeness of Minesweeper should be called "Richard Kaye" in the Wikipedia entry. IF there is good evidence that the name has been changed, that could be mentioned, with reference, in brackets. Blogician (talk) 09:47, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
:I'm not sure a list of people here is sufficient proof of anything. I can't even find "Kaye" on the link you provided Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:22, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Proposed merge of [[Microsoft Minesweeper]] into [[Minesweeper (video game)]]
{{Archive top|status=None|result= The result of the discussion was not to merge}}
This seems like a duplicate article with a heavy WP:OVERLAP. I would recommend it be redirected to or combined with the Good Article. Alternatively, maybe this page could be moved to Minesweeper (genre) and the Microsoft Minesweeper article moved to Minesweeper (video game), but I don't think that is particularly necessary. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:52, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
:Support: They're literally the same game. Microsoft Minesweeper should be a section in the Minesweeper article. Evrstz (talk) 22:55, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
:: No, they're not the same. Minesweeper is a video game genre, and Microsoft Minesweeper is specifically one of the games in this genre. There're many other minesweeper games. SimonWan00 (talk) 09:11, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
:Oppose - Microsoft Minesweeper should be moved to Minesweeper (Windows) and the actual Microsoft Minesweeper (the 2012 version) should instead have its own article, not being conflated with its predecessors. MSMST1543 (talk) 08:00, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose – We're gonna need separate articles on Microsoft's iconic Minesweeper releases, and minesweeper as a broader genre. I don't know which naming scheme is optimal, but I don't think it's healthy for a gameplay style to be completely dominated by a single company's releases. It's like merging kart racing game into Mario Kart. I don't have strong opinions on how to format the names, though. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 08:51, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
:Oppose the Microsoft version of Minesweeper is its own game, to merge the contents together would be confusing. Not to mention, the article already has a link to Microsoft Minesweeper so merge the contents together would be redundant. Rager7 (talk) 23:26, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:Support I believe these should be merged with Microsoft Minesweeper discussed under the greater Minesweeper genre. RonJonThe8th (talk) 21:49, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
:*Oppose, they aren't the same topic.
:Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 22:09, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. There's a distinction between the game (genre) as a whole and one particular version of it (albeit the most famous). oknazevad (talk) 14:05, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Comment I'm of two minds on all of this. For one, is there a justification to have an article about the concept of Minesweeper? It feels like Minesweeper (video game) should be retooled into a section in Microsoft Minesweeper. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 15:04, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support though WP:COMMONNAME should dictate which of the two should be merged into the other. Iljhgtn (talk) 22:40, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
