Presumption of Current Status
I think it's wholly inappropriate to refer to the band as being over, simply because a member has died. The band name was taken from their last names; thus, one shouldn't assume that Eddie Montgomery will end the band they formed, even though his partner has died. The nomenclature wasn't like Brooks & Dunn or Big & Rich. It is best to wait for official confirmation from Montgomery about the status of his band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.33.121.48 (talk) 00:50, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
:I don't get your point. The band is a duo consisting of the two guys, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Just like Hall & Oates is a duo consisting of Daryl Hall and John Oates. If one dies, the band (duo) no longer exists. Why are duos like Brooks & Dunn or Big & Rich any different than Montgomery Gentry? Now if it were a band consisting of three or more members, and one dies, then your point would be valid. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:C44F:4D3E:D54B:8E02 (talk) 03:37, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
::Brooks & Dunn and Hall & Oates have 'and' between the names implying it is two people with those names. Montgomery Gentry doesn't immediately suggest that the name of the group comes from its performers' names, especially as gentry is a proper noun. The name of the band could refer to a group of people in Montgomery. Another performer(s) could join the band and the name could still be used. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdallen (talk • contribs) 03:09, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
:::So you believe the name Montgomery Gentry doesn't represent the last names of its two members, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry? Are you a comedian? 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:C44F:4D3E:D54B:8E02 (talk) 07:40, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
::::No one is suggesting it doesn't represent the last names of its two members. It also doesn't mean that the death of one member means that the BAND Montgomery Gentry will be over. Until there is confirmation from Eddie Montgomery that the musical group Montgomery Gentry is over, it's extremely presumptuous--and erroneous--to assume that the name has been retired. Montgomery may make a choice to continue on as a legacy to his fallen bandmate, or he may not. The point is to assume that the band is "over" isn't based in any concrete fact; it is speculation based upon opinion, and thus the tense change has no place on Wikipedia until evidence warrants otherwise. FURTHERMORE, it should be noted that Montgomery Gentry's tour dates have yet to be canceled. That may change in the next few days, but as of now, the shows are going on. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.33.121.48 (talk) 22:01, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Much ado about nothing, here. I agree that it's presumptuous to believe the band is over because of Gentry's death. There's no need to change the band's status at this time, in my opinion. No doubt the Montgomery part of the duo will address that issue in the future. Until then, we have nothing verifiable that the band is done, so we should leave it as being in the present rather than the past. -- ψλ ● ✉ 22:14, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

NTSB report on fatal crash
I've added a reference to the final NTSB report on the fatal crash that killed Troy Gentry, with a very brief and broad summary of the findings. I am writing a standalone Wikipedia article on the crash and I hope to have it posted before the end of the upcoming weekend, at which point I will add a link on this page. In the meantime, there is no need to post more specifics from the NTSB report here. Carguychris (talk) 16:53, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
