The result of the move request was: not moved. After discussion showed that both the "Nandi" and "Nandy" spellings are in use, editors reached an agreement to retain the current title and mention "Nandy" as an alternative spelling in the lead sentence. I'll create a redirect from that spelling as well to further aid navigation. (closed by non-admin page mover) ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:42, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

:Moti Nandi → {{no redirect|Moti Nandy}} – someone has written Moti Nandy's name incorrectly, please move it Rabdab (talk) 23:46, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

:Hi, thank you for your inputs. But you haven't explained "why". নন্দী is spelled both as "Nandi" and "Nandy." The former is used in most cases, as you can see if you do a quick Google search. Beside, instead of moving the page, you can phrase the first line as: "Moti Nandi (or Nandy)..." Arxms (talk) 03:51, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

::Hey,

::Thank you very much for your response. I should have explained it while putting the request. Actually, his real title spells as Nandy in English. You will find this on many of his book translated in English. [https://www.penguin.co.in/book_author/moti-nandy/ Penguin Random House profile] is one of the genuine example. Many scholars and writers spelled his name like 'Nandi' without knowing what he used to write. Another example is [https://speakingtigerbooks.com/authors-name/moti-nandy/?srsltid=AfmBOoqvQNwKRldwrhZSBzPZ7YcWNsxL3Mq3Z4XbVYZm7OC5yqsvv4SZ speaking tiger publishers profile of him]. These are the reputed publishers in English language. As he used to write in Bengali, in transliteration scholars and writers did the mistake unknowingly. Rabdab (talk) 05:14, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

:::Hi, I've looked up to those sites you mentioned. However, in Wikipedia, we prefer journalistic and academic sources over e-commerce links. Check Wikipedia: Reliable Sources for reference.

:::But, I've also looked up to several English newspapers, and found that some of them did mention him as 'Nandy' instead of 'Nandi'. So your point have a weight. For example, Telegraph [https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/paperback-pickings/cid/485209 mentioned him as Nandy] in a book review, and [https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/that-other-ball-game/cid/889602 in one option piece] while others like [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-63869476 BBC News], [https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/kolkata/eminent-scribe-moti-nandi-passes-away/ Indian Express] , [https://scroll.in/article/971980/for-bengali-publishing-the-pandemic-has-provided-a-much-needed-push-towards-e-books Scroll], and [https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/more-sports/others/writer-and-sports-journalist-moti-nandi-dies/articleshow/5407416.cms Times of India], mentioned him as Nandi. You can also [https://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=Moti+nandy&so=rel check on JSTOR], the journals appear "divided" between Nandy and Nandi. Meanwhile, Goodreads and IMDb uses Nandi.

:::In my opinion, it's better to add a Bengali pronounciation (IPA-bn and Respelling) key along with both the spellings, instead of renaming the whole article (Because that would mean renaming all the texts and links where Nandi is used in Wikipedia: a tiresome process).

:::Regards Arxms (talk) 09:57, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Rabdab, I looked up the name in several journals.They spelled it as "Nandi." [Another point, plenty of my friends use "Nandi" in their surname.]
